“There’s something that really needs to be fixed, and it’s Deshaun Watson to the Bears,” Carr said. “If Deshaun really wants out, which I think is going to be crazy for them to do that, but if he’s actually going to make a move, Chicago is kind of in a similar place as Inidianapolis. A team that has a great defense and has some pieces in place. You might even be able to keep Allen Robinson if you can trade for Watson. For me, this makes a ton of sense, even for both sides really. They could be creative here and make something happen. I think the Chicago Bears could offer them something that they might not be able to say no to. We’ll see what happens, but that would be cool.”

There is no way to make that trade work. They are in a tough cap place, and they don't great draft assets. If you traded for him you would be so gutted, and have so few assets to help him out. If you put in him a situation were he has no offensive line or weapons and a aging expensive defense, why will he be happier here than in Houston? I know the weather and income taxes are a big draw, but this seems like it's would not work.

Yeah, Carr is an idiot. The Bears have to dump salary not add to it. This is why it is so frustrating being a bear fan with these clowns owning the team .

Thats a fair offer, his contract is big. Pace wpuld have given up a first a second and a third.. Thankfully Wentz said no to Chicago.

I imagine the Bears matched that offer but they were uncomfortable with him being a twat about playing for Chicago

I actually would have been ok with that offer as long as it was top 10 protected.

I'm not upset to lose these sweepstakes.

No more trading picks

What now though? Given their presumed short leash, do they just go with Foles and hope for the best? Go all in for David Carr? What's realistic? I still could see them throwing a Hail Mary for Fitz and then drafting his eventual replacement.

Yup.

But with only one obvious suitor for Wentz, the Colts still may have over paid.

ESPN article said bears didn’t even make an offer. Which of course means they were kicking around terms and there was never an official offer. Humorous the reports that they were looking for 2 number 1 pics like lions got for Stratford. I imagine eagles fans are pissed but this seems like a more reasonable package.

According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, though, that last note might be part of why a trade hasn't happened yet.

Breer joined The Herd with Colin Cowherd on Monday to talk about the Wentz trade situation, and he offered up an intriguing nugget about the behind-closed-doors dealings:

"I think Chicago is the frontrunner this morning, and I do know there's a feeling inside that building from Ryan Pace, from the coaching staff, Matt Nagy, John DeFilippo [...] they believe, mechanically, they can fix him.

"[...]

"I think the issue right now, Colin, is where Carson Wentz wants to go. I think it's become pretty clear he'd rather go to Indianapolis, and I think part of it now, for the Eagles, is, 'Alright, if our best return now is Chicago over Indy, then we need to convince Carson Wentz, this is the only place you're going, bud, and you need to buck up and accept this, and realize the Bears are going to give you a good chance.'

"I think it's pretty clear at this point that the Bears have pushed harder than the Colts to get Carson Wentz. [...] I think the Bears would like to at least know that Carson Wentz is on board before pulling a trigger on a trade."

Wonder if the top level NFL media types that put all the hype out there get a cut from agents/GMs? They are pretty effective in making it seem the player is much more sought after than he actually is which must be what the NFL wants because it keeps them in the news throughout the offseason.

Wentz made little sense for the Bears because he was not a fit for the "Reid Tree", RPO, no running game offense. In fact, its starting to look like the RPO Nagy/Peterson/Reid scheme only produces short term success unless you have a generation talent at QB. Finding it laughable that guys like Hub and Bernstein kept repeating that this offense, "doesn't need a good O line because the ball is out too quickly", when in fact the offense requires exceptional offensive line talent in order to open up the deep secondary routes. If you do not have good offensive line talent your QB only has enough time for to complete short passes, and the offense becomes the bottom 5 horizontal Nagy passing game.
