I've been rewatching The Sopranos and I've seen some photos from the prequel. It seems there are some timing issues. I never really thought of it too much- it is just a TV show after all- but some of the stuff just seems wrong.

For example, Tony is roughly supposed to be about my age, we would have been in high school around the same time. About the same years as Dazed and Confused. The music Tony likes is right. But when they show him as a younger kid shit seems off. Like it's the 70s but Johnny Boy and Junior dress like it's 1952 and drive cars to match. And Livia dresses like my grandma did in the 40s.

I watched an episode from the last season last night, "Remember When" and Beansie pulls out an old photo of Paulie where he looks like a greaser from the 50s. But he would have been in his early 20s in the 70s. In the prequel they have him dressed like this which looks more correct:

I'm proud to say I never wore a leisure suit. But I did have a pair of plaid pants.

Not saying you are incorrect Jorr but I have always felt the mafia movies and shows felt a little out of style. As if the members always held onto the past.

I hope, like Better Call Saul, we get to see where Tony Soprano is afterwards too.

Could be right. My mom had a lot of Italian friends and their homes were kind of anachronistically decorated.

I was rocking those, too. Mine were from either JC Penney or Sears.

In our house as a yute, the crap came from Sears. Thankfully my mom rethought that by my middle school years.

I think I might have had the same fucking pants.

I'd rather wear a hundred pounds of poly than a single layer of wool or corduroy.

Dunno. Corduroy seemed to work back in the day.

But the day was 1978.

Had the Toughskins, but my mom got me Pierre Cardin suits for church and class pictures. Got clowned for both at Lab.

Pierre Cardin? You better stop making fun of my expensive oil changes, buddy! I'm pretty sure I was wearing Robert Hall back then. Here I am on the front steps of dolphin's church just before making my First Communion:

And see what I mean about The Sopranos? My mom was wearing a fucking cape. When they show flashbacks to Livia in the 70s she's always dressed like it's 1956. I don't think you could buy clothes like that in 1972. Did she make them herself?

Fwiw, I didn't know how durag was spelled until a couple of years ago. I've never owned one. :D

In Champaign a Korean kid once asked me why I didn't wear one, or a shower cap like all of the other Black guys (football players) who lived in the dorm.

And yeah, I thought it was spelled the same way
