Here's a funny Rush story.

Rush is from Cape Girardeau, MO. The band, the Bottle Rockets, are from Festus which is just up the river. I don't really see Rush as a big rock fan, but maybe he was. Anyway, he's a Boomer so the Bottle Rockets play music one would have expected him to like. And even though they weren't and never really have been mainstream, somehow they got on his radar. I'm sure he liked the small town Missouri boy connection he felt they shared. So he started using their song, "Radar Gun" as a bumper coming in and out of commercial breaks. I'm sure all the closet Rush listeners at CFMB will remember. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wjhTt9fqYY The fact that Rush was playing the song really gave the Bottle Rockets a nice push.

But then someone told Rush about "Welfare Music", a song that has this lyric:

He immediately banished "Radar Gun", never to be heard on the EIB network again.

Limbaugh is to talk radio what Oprah is to TV talk show. In his final years he had up to 30 million people listening to his show in any given week. Some people listened to him for over 30 years and he was no. 1 in the ratings all that time. He had enough people listening to his show that if you didn't listen unless you were a hermit you probably knew at least one person that listened to his show.

The guy was essentially deaf for almost 20 years and he still had the no. 1 radio show. He basically said the only person he ever tried to copy was Larry Lujack.

It’s always seemed a way to dismiss a guy who was effective at boosting a worldview disfavored by MANY. Yet for as many times as I’ve heard this explanation, I’ve never seen somebody explain why it was always a ‘bit.’
