I think the biggest reason to not be religious is that the lines at Costco are really short on Sunday mornings.

There are a lot of Jewish people in the area around my Costco.

Sunday morning is the worst time to shop there.

It's an absolute ghost town though on Friday nights between 6-830PM though.

really?

there are other branches of christianity that are an apostolic church, just like the catholic church.

I’m sure your understanding of apostolic is different. And their are four marks of the Catholic Church. Apostolic is only one of them.

i'm not sure what that means...if that means the nicene creed, the orthodox church and other churches recite the creed. as far as apostolic, st. peter was the 1st bishop of rome and st. andrew was the 1st bishop of constantinople; brothers and both apostles of Christ - over time, each bishop became known as 'pope' and 'patriarch', respectively.

The four marks are what distinguish Catholicism form Orthodox churches. One, holy, Catholic and Apostolic.

As you correctly stated, there are some Orthodox churches that are apostolic.

They are not in union with the bishop of Rome so they are not one with him.

the nicene creed (originally written in greek) has that sentence in the same creed that i say...in the original greek.

Quote:
Εις μίαν, αγίαν, καθολικήν και άποστολικήν Εκκλησίαν.

this means: one, holy, catholic and apostolic church.

in greek, catholic means universal...it doesn't mean the nicene creed is only for catholics. i'm somewhat aware of the minute religious difference(s), but more aware of the political disputes that separated the 2 churches that were once one.

the fact that father pfleger can't get married goes against the original church...i believe the latin church banned priests from marriage only 1,000 years ago, roughly 1,000 years after the founding of christianity.

The Orthodox split in large part because they didn't agree with the whole idea of an infallible pope.

Regular Orthodox priests can get married before ordination, most delay their ordination for several years until they do get married. (The current priest at the parish in Westchester worked for a Big 4 accounting firm between finishing his studies and getting married.). Only those priests who want to be bishops or higher in the org chart are not allowed to get married.

We don't have nearly the amount of diddling going on because most of the priests get to fuck their wives regularly.

I read an interesting book on the Eastern Roman Empire (Lost of the West) and found it very informative the differences that led to the split. Too bad the Ottoman’s got access to the canon and finally took Constantinople.

the pope didn't say he was 'infallible'; ex cathedra - until the 1800s.

the 'split' occurred in the 1000s when each bishop (rome-constantinople) excommunicated the other for various minor religious disputes, but, more so for political reasons. there was only one church, when each side excommunicated the other, the terms 'catholic' and 'orthodox' appeared to distinguish the churches.

catholic meaning universal and orthodox meaning sticking to original dogma.

a few years before he died, pope john paul 2 said the catholic church and orthodox church were the 2 lungs of the christian church. as time went by - under ottoman rule - the orthodox church became marginalized in terms of importance and power. the russians were/are orthodox, but they had no friends in catholic western europe (france, spain, portugal, italy, hungary, poland, austria, bavaria) - save a secular england.

today, the orthodox church appears to many to be a mystical branch of christianity that can't get the date of easter correct. i was asked by a religious catholic filipino if the orthodox believe in God. i said the new testament was written in greek..do you think the greek church doesn't understand it's own language and writings?

Two quick hits.

What does DCFS have to do with a diddling investigation and prosecution? Doesn’t CPD have a section for that?

Also I find the orthodox branches interesting. My son in law is Coptic and hence step daughter and now grand daughters. Many times there for service and ceremony. Mystical isn’t a bad word to use.

yes, mysticism is as integral as it was 2,000 years ago. the thurible, candles, incense and chanting..etc.

calendar dates...how really important are they? i believe the english 'erased' 11-13 days off the calendar in the 1700s to 'reset' and give a uniformed date to all it's colonies around the world. i'm not sure how that effects an easter date, but if the 'last supper' celebrated the end of passover, then it seems a given that christian easter must occur after jewish passover. the orthodox always observe easter after passover.

really, really, really skeptical that they are sending out 100K per month when I look at the bulletin to see total donations at QAS last week were 25K.

No, its time to start taxing churches at a nominal rate; 1% or even 0.5%. They've skated for far too long.

There is nothing false about you admitting to slapping women in the past.

When one of them no shows, you're goddam right it will be a quick outing. The only way 312 would ever say anything direct to me is if I happened to answer his phone call to Barraco's.
