Released last fall, so I'm a little behind, but watched this last night and thought it was well done. Even though events took place 50 years ago, a lot of similarities to the country now.

i want to click on it but never did. Borat being in the cast sort of irks me. but i'll give it a watch now since you said it's good.

I enjoyed it while watching it and don’t think I’ll ever watch it again. Kinda seems par for the course for Sorkin for me mostly.

Yeah. Paint by numbers Sorkin. Pretty boring.

I wonder how many people who identify with the 7 consider the the Capitol protestors archcriminals.

That Venn diagram is likely a perfect circle.

Do we just need to move this nothing thread to the politics section now or can you and JORR just admit the substantial differences between the two scenarios? How is it not tiring as fuck at this point trying desperately to point out “the other sides” hypocrisy while ignoring your own sides?

I don't have a "side". I'm just making an observation. Obviously someone like Aaron Sorkin understands what a political trial is, probably while he's making tweets cheering on the investigation of Trump in the SDNY.

Didn't Aaron Sorkin write Tom Hayden to say that he agrees with the Establishment, he just thinks they need to make incremental changes?

Sort of. In the end he was the hero though as he defied and infuriated Judge Hoffman by reading off the names of Vietnam War dead rather than giving a brief and respectful statement. I'm not sure if that's how it really happened though.

Maybe some confusion here friend. I’ve never supported anybody that mobbed the Capitol and I thought the symbolism of that moment was arguably Trump’s biggest failing.

Suffice to say, I don’t think Viking man is getting flattering Netflix coverage in 40 years.

Of course you have a side don’t treat us like fucking idiots. The JORR of 6-7 years ago would have easily explained the difference between the two scenarios and yet here you are acting like they are the same thing with your lapdogs +1’ing it

Yeah, and my observation is merely that if you think it's absurd and unfair that the Chicago 7 were charged with what they were while you cheer on a task force to investigate a bunch of people who don't know each other for planning an "insurrection" maybe you want to rethink one of those positions.

Do you really think what happened on January 6th was an insurrection? Or do you think it was a relatively few people getting out of hand?

And don't do that "JORR of 6-7 years ago" shit. We've talked about the media and the way they distort stuff. Just as an example, they told us for months that Andrew Cuomo was a amalgamation of Brad Pitt, Jonas Salk, and Alexander the Great. But none of it was true and now we can see that he's closer to being a combination of Harvey Weinstein and Rick Snyder.

I wasn't in D.C. and I don't think you were either. So we have to rely on others to tell us what occurred. You know what I see? The same people that ridiculed Trump's inauguration crowd as "tiny" insisting that the January 6th crowd that was a fraction as many people was a huge mass threatening to bring down the U.S. government.

Here's my position so you aren't confused. I think the prosecution of the Chicago 7 was political and ridiculous and I think the prosecution of most people arrested in the Capitol riots for anything greater than property damage will be completely political and equally as ridiculous. There may be a few exceptions.

You don’t need to tell me about the media. I agreed with you on them in 2016 but now that point has distorted your entire worldview to the point you can’t tell a political movement that was against a president against one led by one. You’ve been thoroughly brainwashed and had your mind warped to the point you can’t have an honest political conversation anymore.

Hopefully you’ll change your mind again.

The FavreFan of 6-7 years ago wouldn't have supported what is obviously a campaign to silence certain political viewpoints. "Disinformation." "Domestic terrorism." The people that are driving this and establishing these commissions and rules and powers that will become entrenched won't always be in power, you know. Are you really comfortable you don't have any posts on this message board or elsewhere that might get you labeled a "domestic terrorist"? Because you know what? I'm not.

There are people on both sides of the political spectrum raging against the neoliberal order and Establishment. Those coming from the Left are being dealt with with carrots. Those coming from the Right are being handled with sticks. For now.

Anyway, the thing that prompted my post in this thread was that I watched this last night. My first problem is that I couldn't see Abbie Hoffman as anyone but Borat. I kept waiting for him to say something like, "Your wife. Is she a Jew?" Which Sorkin came very close to having him do.

It was mostly meh. It had a few really good moments. Hoffman on the stand was one of them. Keaton in every scene was incredible. His handling of the judge was masterful. Now where it fell down was in some of the historical parts they omitted to make the character look better. 1) the robe incident-they did not have police uniforms under. When they did was take them off and stomp on them. 2) Hoffman was way more loud and unruly in court. Instead of Seale he should have been bound and gagged. 3) The reason Seale was bound and gagged(that should not have been done to anyone unless they are physically attacking people) is he went on a 2-3 minute rant on the judge calling him a racist and moron(not saying he wasn't, but it is his room).4)they down played the actual conspiracy fact, all the parties but Seale worked together to do I wont say illegal but unlawful acts. They glossed over that they where convicted, they only reason their convictions got overturned was that Judge Hoffman was totally complainant. The 68 situation is just one more time where the left can do what it wants and slants the viewpoint to where they are the good guys.
