Hoping that Andrew Vaughn is ready is such a low rent, small market move. Don't hope that an unproven prospect comes through. Sign a guy, and have him as a bonus if he performs.

It's the smart move. The kid was #3 pick overall 2 years ago and was absolutely raking last spring as well before Covid shut it down. Hahn was saying last year that his bat was ready for the majors after watching him at the Schaumburg facility. Vaughn is one of those kids you need to hit with in order to have a sustained window for most of the decade so time to put him out there and let him show why he won the Golden Spikes Award

I prefer to spend money now, especially after saying it will be spent after missing out on Machado. There are still too many question marks on this team that it supposedly playing for the World Series this year. Lance Lynn is fine, but how about getting an ace to bump rag arm Kuechel down a slot.

I think that's a move you make in July depending on where you're at and how you stand. Obviously, the hope is that Cease takes a leap forward and if Lopez/Rodon aren't cutting it maybe Crochet or Kopech successfully grabs a rotation spot. If not then there are pieces that can be moved for an available top-of-rotation pitcher. Ideally, you can win with what you have. I'm not trying to save Jerry's money. I just don't want it wasted unnecessarily. There will come a time when it's really needed and I don't want it tied up in a guy like "Losing Pitcher" John Danks.

I understand the thinking on it, but I don't understand how they are spending money. Losing McCann hurts, and we went with a guy who seems to have lost it four years ago as the defensive backup. I am not sure what pieces they have to trade in July now either since we are penciling in Vaughn and others into the everyday line-up.

AAA start pushed back to May 4. I can't see how they are going to have Vaughn just sit around for a month to then get some AB at Charlotte. It is more likely that they just start him and if he is overmatched then send him down to Charlotte for three weeks to fuck with his service time.

They are having the AA and A ball players show up in Arizona after the big leaguers leave. AAA was supposed to start right after opening day but they announced yesterday they are pushing it back to the same May 4 start date as AA and A ball.

So because past signing have not worked it means they never will? Nelson Cruz is the heart and soul of the Twins. Signing him would have given them an open path to easily winning the division. Now they are fairly evenly matched up based on current projections.

There are just too many guys already on the roster or in their system that they can use at DH. It's a waste of money. However, I could have done with a better right fielder.

I would tend to agree. Especially since they have enough pieces to rest him against some nastier #1 starters at first, and they can probably hit him 6th.

Is AA season delayed?

I would like to see what Collins can do with a couple of weeks of regular ab. If they could start Vaughn in AA to hopefully dominate, then get Collins going before settling in at backup c, it would be a nice scenario

Let's say a team has a guy who legitimately is not ready, or maybe rehabbing an injury...even something minor like a muscle pull/strain that happened in the Spring. Extended Spring Training is their only option for the first month of the MLB season?
