Joe Altobelli died earlier this week.

He was 88.

For some reason I thought he already died a year ago or somethin'.

I must be thinkin' of someone else. Some age-old dinosaur with a slight Cubs connection.

Anyway, Joe was a Cubs bench coach in the 80s or 90s.

Always thought he was nothing more than that.

Was stunned to find out that the fucker won the World Series in '83 as the manager of the Tigers or Orioles or some shit like that.

Never knew he had a winning pedigree.

Anyway, his name was always intriguing to me. I still think his name in Harry Caray's voice, the way he'd kinda belt out that third syllable.

RIP.
