The Bears must be under the $190-million threshold by 3 p.m. CT next Wednesday, when the new league year begins.

And they still need a quarterback.

No they don't...they have Nick Foles

And he would have an even bigger cap hit if they cut him. So fucked.

There will be tons of high paid vets cuts league wide.

Bears have plenty of guys they can cut or restructure, so shouldn't have a hard time getting to the cap, but making a move for a QB will be difficult unless they are able to package a big name, big money defensive player in the trade.

Desperate enough to make this trade resembles the Pace and Nagy Bears.

Pace already robbed peter to pay paul by redoing Mack's contract a couple of years ago, that's why the cap hit is so high. Oh and the awful Robert Quinn contract. Forget that he passed on a HOF QB and also Watson, there is no justifiable reason why he should be employed by the Bears today.

They would have to gut the entire roster to make a Wilson trade happen. So you have a 32 year old Wilson. You better pray to God he can last as long as Brady/Rodgers because you are looking at 4 years to restock the pond around him.

that's why this makes zero zero sense to me. Just suck for a year, punt the GM and coach and start over.

Makes no sense for Seattle. Makes a ton of sense for the Bears

If you really want to start over, you should have punted the coach and GM on January 4th.

The Bears have no interest in starting over. They don't need to win, they need to make money. And there are tens of thousands of families like Seacrest's waiting with check in hand for 2021 season tickets. Until that stops, the Bears will always be mediocre at best.

I really thought they would. But George didn't cut either off. I thought he'd punt Pace.

I've lost track of salaries for kickers. Is $3M/year for an above average kicker the going rate?

Cairo Santos has been around a long time and we caught him in the best streak of his career. If I were a betting man, my play would not be that he will continue to be as good as he was last year.

He does so much shit during his matador pre kick routine that any mechanical flaw or tweak will wreck him for half the season. I was impressed with him last season though, he made it work all year and never got a hitch in his mechanics.

Not sure if the "be you" guys Pace/Nagy have thought this through.

If you trade tons of draft capital for a veteran QB that QB almost has to have say over roster development and the coaching staff, they would have invested so much in that player that he would be the second most powerful person in the organization. After all, you cannot afford to piss him off after you've mortgaged your teams future on him. If the team fails, Pace/Nagy become the scapegoats because if would be way cheaper to launch them than move on them than the QB.

Nothing you’ve said is wrong, but I’d have to think Pace/Nagy are launched next year absent a very good season.

Their math should probably be more along the lines of what gives them the cleanest path to a good 2021, if only for self preservation. Otherwise they’re protecting a future they’ll have no part in.
