They are talking about making the left side of the lake, which is actually next to the 9th hole, out of bounds. Its fine.

https://www.golfchannel.com/sites/defau ... 8_1920.jpg

Stick to the July thread.

So it’s not oob normally but they need to change it because one player is stronger than everyone else ?

Rogue, they did this last week, again they did it at the Sony Open and guess what, Bryson wasn't even in the field.

Again it was on the Golf Channel where I just saw this and they were specifically mentioning Bryson about this hence it seemed like they were changing it specifically because of him. Maybe its to keep Speith at bay too.

I specifically said to stay in the July thread.

OOB markers change all the time in tournament play. Not quite on a weekly basis, but it happens enough that its generally not even worthy of a mention. There is no law that says Bryson has to hit driver on #18 at Sawgrass.

You can't have players hitting into another fairway for a shortcut. It has nothing to do with Bryson "being stronger". He'll be fine.

Not to mention that if a player took that route, you have a hospitality area & tent now directly in play for the second shot "into" 18.

They said he would have a 12x12 area to hit it in.

No you don't.

Fairway 35 yards wide @330 yards on 18, with a direct look into the green.
Fairway 50 yards wide @330 yards going into 9, with a blind shot over a hospitality tent and 100% carry over water.

Just because you can hit it that far, doesn't mean you should hit it that far. All of us golfers have been in that predicament on a tee shot before.

The Players this week, always a fun one and truly is one of the few tournaments that should be considered a "5th Major". I know it is a long shot but I have enjoyed Spieth back contending in tournaments every week. I think this would be a nice trophy to put in his case and cement the fact that he is almost back to where he was. Probably not the horse for this particular course and not sure what his record is here but would be a great feel good story which The Players seems to cultivate many years. Just think his driver is still a little too crooked from what I have seen.

Agree 100%, Tbone. I would love to see Spieth win again, but yes he is in the rough off the tee far too often. Couple that with him being a "short" hitter and its a big disadvantage.

Finau +6 thru 7 holes with a double - bogey - bogey start... I should be able to catch some of the action on the Golf Channel the next few days. Saw some pics on social media and even the range area looked pristine.

Sergio with a great first round. Scores all over the board but looks like if you can keep it at E or better you will be in great shape going into tomorrow. Like many say, you can't win the tournament on Thursday but you can sure as hell lose it. MANY surprise big scores.

Viktor Hovland assessed a two-stroke penalty for not replacing his ball mark in the correct spot. He actually tried to moved it back, but went the wrong way. Yikes!

 Yeah it certainly was. You could tell they were beat up mentally.

And how about old man Stricker? Charters a flight to get there just a couple hours before his tee time (because Justin Rose WD due to innjury), and Stricks shows up and fires a -2, 70.

Some low scores out there early today. Might need to get to -16 or better to win.

Todd with a shank on 17, Dechambeau tops a drive 100 yards into the drink, and Westwood follows that with a shot way right into a pond. Craziness.

And Dechambeau goes way way right. Might even be gone.

This is fun to watch, leaders struggling. It seems Bryson is better off when he hits driver and is aggressive. When he backs off to an iron or non-driver wood off the tee, he has issues. He can’t back off.

So if Todd's shank on 17 landed on that little island I guess he would have had to get out there to play it or take an unplayable. He wouldn't have been able to go to the drop area.
