Theres a few that live in janesville and work in madison, but not many because its a 45min drive. Its not worth the money you save.

That drive up 90 sucks ass, too. Wouldn't want to deal with it in winter or inclement weather in general, and the cops really camp out on that stretch between Janesville and Madison.

If youre raising kids, youll prob want verona or sun prairie. Theyre both expanding, but sun prairie is fucking wild. Putting up a monstrosity of a new high school, and just built two huge elementary schools. Also, a brand new high school football stadium that is better than some college stadiums lol.

Verona if you want your kids to become friends with wealthy white snobs. For the diversity reason alone i would go with sun prairie. Still mostly white but at least a percentage of black and mexican to normalize things a bit.

And the fuckwad Wisconsin drivers that think it's acceptable to do 70 in the left lane and not move over.

Most fuckwad Wisconsin drivers don't make it above 65.

This thread turned out much less hostile than I thought it would.

Thank you guys for passing on the knowledge.

Nah, there are plenty of fuckwad WI drivers that will blow through the construction zones on 39/90 at 80+. Unless these are all Flatlander emigres.

I interviewed for a job there a few years ago. I thought it was boring with a lot of annoying fratbros or Shitlibs (wealthy whites with BLM signs in their yards). I was told the area along the Beltline, east and west of Fish Hatchery Road and parts of Fitchburg are shitty. My friend used to live on the older, nicer west side and sold his house a few years back before he even listed it, for 25% over market. It seems like a mini-Austin in that sense, at least the areas inside the Beltline.

They are.

I can see that, right down to the deeply unpleasant traffic. They both have very recession-proof economies.

The construction is nearly done. There is just a small stretch through Janesville, a tiny patch by the Casino and right across the border.

I drive 76 from the border to Lyndon Station where I get off. Fancy red Jaguar F Pace with IL plates. Not even one sniff of a cop after me. I make the drive several times per month for two plus years.

Janesville count as a suburb?

Janesville is more the northernmost edge of Rockford than the southernmost edge of Madison. You can get cheap real estate, and then what? The town's bombed out. Factory town where the factory left. It's a very depressing town that feels far from everywhere.

Michigan exporting economic devastation across the land. Janesville (barely) holding on population wise a decade on; maybe folks have found other work locally or commuters taking advantage of the cheap real estate and moving in to replace those who left after the plant closed. Treading water in population numbers is unusual for the greater Madison area; where double digit increase in pop. each decade is the norm.

I had several high school teachers who lived in Janesville and commuted to LG, which is about a 40-minute drive down what's mostly a country road and not even a scenic one. One teacher's rationale for why he worked so far from home was that he could teach "people who would matter one day" in a way he couldn't at home. (Joke's on him; he taught me.) It always struck me as a grim place in a way that even Racine and Waukegan don't. At least they're on a body of water and near other stuff. Janesville is just rot surrounded by farms.

I get off (lol) at the Mauston exit. My dad lives on Petenwell Lake, have to drive by the suburban sprawl of Castle Rock Lake. Gross. I usually tell myself I'll only go 70 in the right lane and only speed up to pass semis, and then up going 77-79. I have MN plates, so they take the hit.

Btw CH is spot on about Janesville.

The suburban sprawl of Castle Rock! Hahaha, at least we have less prop breaking stumps in our lake. Which side is your dad on, Juneau or Adams? How often are you there? I would love to hit Romano’s with you especially at the outdoor bar in the summer. Great deep dish pizza. Joey is a Chicago guy.

This will be the key challenge for JBi11s' relocation--finding a place that's reasonably close to Madison but not overrun by white race-reductionists whose politics are paradoxically both performative and fundamentalist in nature.

To avoid this group--something that's becoming nearly impossible in just about any college town--I would think that Bi11s would have to live a minimum of 20 minutes outside Madison.

Yes it really is a nice road now.
