It's also been a hell of a lot longer than this year where being white quit being some magical advantage. I mean Obama won the Presidency with a paper thin political resume largely on being black. I know that his election doesn't matter, and the most important thing to say about it is that racism surely still exists.

I don't know when the exact moment hit, but the general sentiment that we need fewer white men in positions of leadership has been around for nearly my entire life. I can recall teachers justifying the outcome of the O.J. Simpson Trial as a form of justice because of the past. So by 1995 we had an obviously guilty black man who brutally murdered two white people allowed to walk to punish racists.

I think we forget that it had already been a generation since the Civil Rights Act by the mid-90s. And there were already diversity quotas, affirmative action, etc. Did you have an advantage if you knew someone or where related to one of the bosses? Sure. But if you were some white guy with resume in hand was there really magical cabal ensuring your success? No you were expendable, and you couldn't say racism was to blame when they brought in a guy from India to do your job for 60 percent of your the salary or just shipped it off to Mexico.

I hope you are right because it should not be an advantage. By almost every objective measure, whites are way ahead of other groups in this country- unemployment, family income, wealth, home ownership. The only group that is close or exceeding on some metrics are Asians. Some of that is cultural and a big part of that is high performing Asians tend to migrate here. We do not get many rural poor Chinese coming to this country. We get their best and brightest.

If we are going to complain and point out that the far left sees racism in everything, are we not just as guilty if we are going to have faux outrage over JDC’s silly Tweets?

How many white guys around here have really experienced racism? I bet you have an uncle that was passed over by affirmative action. Yeah I have one of those too, wink wink.

Do you honestly think that personal behavior has nothing to do with disparities between racial groups?

Daniel Patrick Moynihan put out a report in 1965 that said black America was in crisis because 25 percent of children were in single parent homes. That number is 80 percent now. If you graduate high school, stay out of prison, hold a job, not have children with multiple people, and not have children until you can afford them you will likely be able to have a decent life in America.

I am certain that a black child from a stable two parent black family has a much better chance at doing well in life than the child of white single mother who struggles with addiction.

i contend its inheritance and wealth. African Americans have not been able to truly leave a legacy to their families until recently. Now not every white family gets left a giant windfall but the avg is a real inheritance that helps in some way shape or form. whether its a house, even a vehicle. Black people have hardly been able to own anything to even leave anything behind. it took the civil rights movement to even really start the clock on true ownership of anything for black people.

white families are twice as likely to receive an inheritance and its likely 3x as big as any inheritance a black family will get. and land/home is the #1 asset passed down.

wealth isn't a cure-all but its certainly a start.

In the scheme of things, 3 games vs 2 is not a real big deal. But when your only job is to give an accurate 30-60 second 'update' on scores, games, scheduling, front office moves, and maybe injuries, you have to be accurate. Mis-speaking and correcting yourself is one thing. Being incorrect as an update anchor is different.

There are immigrants that come here with nothing, and within a generation their children as established as middle class or higher Americans. A history of discrimination might play a factor, but there have been generations born since laws have been changed.

Since about the beginning of recorded history the Jews have been the "other". They have been slaves, second-class citizens, prevented from being put in positions of power, had all of their wealth stolen, and were nearly driven into extinction in the 20th Century.

While the Holocaust didn't happen here the United States didn't do anything to help the Jews until Hitler declared war on them. And they were certainly considered "others" and second class citizens throughout American history. There is no suggestion that we redress all of the historical ills done to the Jews. There are no calls for perpetual academic advantage or reviews to figure out ever instance of disadvantage in the past.

Whatever the injuries of the past, the solution is going to have to come from within, and this path of looking for revenge for the sins of our forefathers is threatening to bring the entire West into an abyss. The Chinese are happy to push us there, and I don't think "people of color"' will get a better deal from them.
