Purdue's Greek system is pretty small, at least it was when I was there.

On the sorority side sure, but the fraternity side of things is huge. Basically the Greek system is a microcosm for how the rest of the school is a giant sausage fest.

Purdue in the Big 10 still? Do they have a football program?

I looked hard at Purdue, even took a trip to campus for a day with my parents. But UIUC had more classes in the subspecialty I wanted, and in those days in-state admissions to the UIUC engineering school was against a chart of ACT vs class rank, and I was a guaranteed entry.

It worked out well, because the Purdue emphasis was on the stuff I struggled to get B grades in, and the UIUC emphasis could be on systems analysis instead.

The engineering schools are pretty comparable in terms of quality, aren't they? I know Purdue has a stellar reputation, but my understanding was UIUC's was good as well.

This wouldn't be an incorrect observation. Purdue has over 40+ fraternities, but fewer than 20 sororities so it's very lopsided and things get awkward when IFC would be pairing fraternities and sororities for Grand Prix Week or for Tailgating.

Yes they are mostly. I think UIUC has a better civil and electrical prgm. Purdue has better industrial and aero. I think mechanical and chemical are similar.

I don't know how I've never seen the Purdue campus until now, but just visited with my son this week.

This is easily the nicest university campus I've ever visited.

The grounds of Indiana University Bloomington sit on such a rich vein of Indiana limestone, it comes as little surprise to learn that the material figures prominently across the 1,937-acre campus. Maxwell Hall – which houses some of the university’s admin offices – also features limestone in its stunning facade and soaring, peaked tower. Excepting the area of apts. and other things around the football stadium, it's a beautiful campus. And has been since the seventies.

Or Northwestern. And if you're in Indiana and didn't get into IU, you went to Purdue.

Illinois people would also opt with IU over U of I. Indiana rules.

No way I would have gotten into NW but plenty of people didn't want high school 2.0 in Champaign in our school.
