Here's how it works. When the media wants to make it sound like there is an epidemic of mass shootings, they change the definition so that it includes any incident with at least 4 wounded, even though the vast majority of these are gang shootings where shitty aim results in bystanders being hit and not some random mass shooting.

When the media wants to portray it as a white guy problem, they change the definition again and exclude those same gang shootings that they will then cite as evidence of the problem in the next article on the same page tomorrow.

Its not surprising she doesnt understand that if there were a typical " 4 killed,11 wounded in Chicago shooting" and say, Clay Travis tweeted that out with something like " Im tired of waking up and seeing yet another mass shooting committed by a black man " ( it wouldnt even matter if it was true but ESPECIALLY later on if it was found out the shooter was white ) she and her woke fucking band of morons would hit the roof. Then if Travis came back with " Well its Chicago , stats say thats usually who does that "as his way of justification. Please.

Suffice it to say July was never not going to find a source that agreed with her preconceived notions about mass shootings. It doesn't matter to her that the source had to do scientifically questionable things like make a value-judgement about one motivation being worse than another (gang shooting involving multiple victims vs non-gang shooting involving multiple victims), then make assumptions about the motivations for shootings included in the data itself and disregard that data completely. Someone officiously stated that "mass shootings" are primarily the problem of one race over all others, and that's good enough for her.

I would put gang violence and mass shootings in different categories. Gang violence needs to be seen through the lens of drug legalization, broken families, poor primary education, and limited opportunities in the impacted communities. Much of that violence is social and economic issues. Mass shootings probably lean more towards mental health problems.

The reason they are shooting is different. It is like trying to address highway deaths from DUI’s vs people just speeding. The causes are different and so are the solutions.

This. We cannot begin to address whatever "issues with mass shootings" this country has until we can accurately assess the scope of the problem. Arbitrarily defining "not mass shooting" and "mass shooting" along the lines of presumed motive and/or cause actively hinders our ability to assess the issue. What's more, these hindrances seem not-so-subtly aimed at preemptively sloughing off blame for the "issues" on an entire race of people to spare the feelings of or retribution from another group of people.

We're talking about white people, right?

True, and I was not talking about motivations. I was about the underlying causes of those types of violence. But I guess we can fix gang violence and mental health driven mass shootings with the same solution. I am anxiously waiting the answer(s).
