I don't know if I would say that. Chicago isn't at the top of the daily national news cycles, but we had a sitting President compare Chicago to Afghanistan not all that long ago. So its not like violence in Chicago gets totally ignored.

The Boulder and Atlanta murders shock the conscience more than the nearly daily murders in Chicago. I believe some would say the reason for that is because the MSM is running cover for large cities controlled by Dems. I believe others would say the Chicago shootings are largely ignored because MANY believe that those lives are worth less than those in Boulder and Atlanta.
