It's the correct thing to happen but it also could be a pretty big example of a phyricc victory.

That's not a defense of an unfair system and an overseeing organization that could have avoided this by being proactive but college sports are a very strange collection of otherwise completely unrelated areas that all kind of work together in some strange ways.

At a minimum, if the NCAA loses, the P5 are likely to split completely from the NCAA and the rest of college sports and run things themselves. That's fine with me because hopefully my school is part of that. If you are Loyola you have to hope that the P5's College Basketball Playoff includes a wildcard spot for the winner of the MVC.

There are unintended consequences. There always are. We're talking about scholarship athletes who are 1 percenters and who fund the other 99%. I don't know if this is a "tide lifts all boats" situation. I sure hope so.

I think the situation will be much closer to your arguments around an expanded CFP.

If the P5 - or more likely, some segment of the upper end of P5 - split off to form a lucrative new league, why the fuck would they invite some MAC school to the party?

The basketball tournament needs 68 teams. If it's only the P5(or P6 if they throw the Big East a bone and let them play basketball with them) then you have 65 to 80 schools to have in your tournament. Does anyone want to see a 3 win Nebraska squad playing in the postseason?

The overwhelming majority of NCAA football players are getting the better end of the deal in receiving a scholarship. There are some that aren't but an extra $6k doesn't cover their value either.

The truth is, you could put an alabama jersey on a mannequin and there will be people who will cheer "roll tide"
