Maybe that's what they meant. They'll ALWAYS give up runs.

7 unearned runs so far this series. Got to be able to pitch over 3 base errors and popups off the noggin.

Bad defense

Bad bullpen

I feel we've seen this movie before.

Sean Marshall and Aaron Bummer are not 8th inning guys on a team with post-season expectations. Leury Garcia in the line up again? Have another red wine, LaRussa. LaRussa reminding us why The Hawk fired him in the 1st place.

Aaron Bummer is a 5th, 6th, or 7th inning guy.

Why so down on Bummer? Wasn't he pretty much lights out last year?

I'm not "down" on Bummer or Marshall. I just want the high leverage innings to go to Crochet and Kopech.

Anyway, they look like the same old Sox to me. But hey, it's only three games.

Also, I may be cracking up, but I swear when I went to sleep last night the Sox were leading 4-2 after the Mercedes double. When I looked this morning the final was 5-3. What happened to the other run? Did Collins get sent back to third? I guess maybe it was declared a ground rule double.

I can't believe you went to sleep while your team was still playing.

I also cannot believe that Robert had a ball hit him in the head. He is such a smooth fielder. Guess stuff like that can happen to even the best of em.

Adam Eaton also dropped a pretty routine fly ball earlier in the series.

This team just doesn't look very good right now.

And the guys on ESPN 1000 said it was possible this bullpen would not lose a lead past the fifth even once the entire season....

He pitched 9 innings last year. The year before he had a good year on a 72-89 team. I just don't think he or Marshall are pitchers to use consistently in high leverage situations.

Kopech looks the best out of all the relievers. Plus I'm going to make a snap judgement on his mental space based on his looks. In 2019, he was a pretty boy on the mound. Game 2 he was all disheveled and wore a hardhat and brought his lunchbox.

If Kopech can give them a solid 1 2/3 to 2 1/3 once every series in close games, he will reach his likely innings limits of 100 and still be available for the post-season.

His arm and his brain (cue Big Brane here) shouldn't be taxed with 70 appearances as a regular Roberto Hernandez-style 8th inning guy this year.

Hopefully with a better finish though.

I'm learning these sox fans are a different bunch. never participate in the series threads when the game is on and now this. Now I understand why they had one thread for the entire season the last 5 years.

to each their own i guess.

I'm happy for Mercedes. He probably doesn't have a long term home in a league without a DH and with 13 pitchers. But he will be a perfect fit on a team like Pittsburgh once they get the DH.

In the past, guys like this played forever as a third catcher and key pinch hitter. Gary's own Lloyd McClendon was an example of this type of guy, and going back to the 70s I remember a guy named Jose Morales who played for the Twins for a few years.

Yeah, back when every team had a couple of guys like that. And they had legions of fans awaiting the occasional timely plays.
