I think I need to re-evaluate my thoughts on Merlot Joe and what he meant to this team. Originally I was sold on him being this motivational guru who helped a group of young players reach their potential only to let them free fall after reaching the summit. What it appears now is that somehow he got a group of below average players to somehow play well above their talent level for an entire season. 2016 was like that Awakenings movie and Joe was Robin Williams.

you see that cubs? you have the shift on w/ a runner on first no out, what does the pirate batter do, simple bunt towards third, no play, 1st and 2nd no out, and then next batter drives him in. fucking simple baseball fundamentals. these pirates have not hit 1 HR in the last 2 games, 12 runs no homeruns from supposedly the worst team in baseball.
