I had a yellow lab also named Lily that passed away two years ago. She got diabetes at like 3 and had to give her insulin shots till she died at 11. Wonderful dogs but man, it seems like they get so many health issues.

This was the discussion I had with my vets last spring about this time in regards to my gsp with a different aliment. Hard to believe how much it can end up costing Good luck Lily. So hard.

I don't want to speak for Doug, but IMO its different in his case (and Bob's) when the animal is younger and has a good bit of life left to lead.

If its a 12 or 13 year old dog, might be best to opt for quality of life over a bigtime treatment.

I will never begrudge anyone spending a dime on their pet.Ive had people look at me like I'm a lunatic when it comes to my dogs (Well, compared to when they look at me like Im a lunatic about other things) but as long as there is a chance and dog is happy..

the worst part is that she shows no signs of illness. she's excitable and as energetic as always. she naps a bit more after treatment and pees a lot because of the prednisone, but otherwise happy as a clam.
