I think IB left for a lot of reasons. The main one I think is just because he doesn't live around here any longer.

I met him when he was still at UofI and had a few drinks with him.

Good guy. Drank drinks.

I don't think that was why he left. Maybe a contributing factor but IIRC, he was around for years after that incident occured.

I thought what made him leave for good was bigfan going off on IB for not asking permission to start/post some sort of college football pool/pick 'em type deal.

that's correct. Sure, we gave him a buncha crap for his technique, but that's not why he left.

Didn't he write a book on some obscure football story?

He did. He was ahead of the analytics curve. He was going to do well in life as long as he lived. Really smart in a lot of areas.

As I've said in the past, I'm pretty sure Irish Boy posts here somewhat regularly under a different screen name.

And yeah, he's definitely a very bright guy. I think he graduated summa cum laude at U of I, got close to a perfect score on his LSAT, did very well at U of C law school, went on to a prestigious clerking position, etc.

Didn't he go to Notre Dame Law? Or was his book about Notre Dame football?

His book was about how the conferences were formed. ND factored in heavily though.

I can't remember his name, but he popped up in my Facebook newsfeed last year and I think he was running for some local office in the state he calls home.

He was a great poster. We usually found something to disagree about, but he was an honest, earnest young gentleman.

No. That’s not him.

I think it’s best to delete posting info about random people.

thought I would share this cool story giving you a glimpse at what I do. I see a lot of ambulance chaser references and I play along, but in all honesty as a work comp attorney I do very honorable work and take care of a lot of low income workers and their families when otherwise they would be getting taken advantage of by evil soulless insurance companies (shots fired at Deni$).

Here is an example. A few months ago I signed up a new case. Very nice older Mexican factory worker, had been with his company for over 30 years. Tore his rotator cuff. Didn't hire an attorney because, and I've heard this a million times, the insurance company was being so nice to him and they were paying for all the medical and sending him weekly checks he didn't want to make waves with the company.

This is a common tactic of insurance companies. The prey on the poor and uneducated. Tell them they are going to pay for everything, be really nice so the person won't think to hire an attorney, all along they are royally screwing them.

So his treatment is over and this extremely nice and generous insurance company offers him $18,000 to settle his case. At the end of all work comp cases the worker is entitled to a settlement for any permanent disability. At this point my client finally decided to talk to a lawyer.

I immediately noticed that the nice insurance company had paid him his weekly benefits at a much lower rate than they should've by about half. Just the underpayment alone totaled over $21,000.

Long story shorter....yesterday I settled his whole case for $95,000. Even after my 20% he's still going to walk away with close to $76,000 tax free. This is a guy who can now take care of his family and is no longer being taken advantage of thanks to my work. A guy who worked for a company for 30 years and had never been hurt before only to see that company turn around and completely try to ruin his life.

This is what I do every day, protecting people who need protection from major insurance companies and their teams of lawyers. And I think that's pretty honorable.

Moral of the story: if you ever get hurt on the job call a lawyer. Doesn't have to be me (but it should be me), just call someone. You need your rights protected and even after paying the lawyer 20% you're still going to make more money than if you tried to do the case yourself. I've had this exact situation play out countless times in my career and the client has always come out way ahead.

Must be real nice of him to get all that money without having to work for it.

 8)

Right? It makes up for the cases where I put him a ton of work including a couple pre-trials to get my client $5000 for a lacerated pinkie.

Unfortunately, the ones where I have to do a ton of work for a limited return outnumber the ones where I just order medical records and then demand a big bag of money.

EDIT: oh wait, just realized you were talking about the client, not me.
