My sister had the same side effects you are having. She didn't want to get the second shot, either but did end up getting it. Had milder side effects the second time around; only one day of that instead of three.

I had a teledoctors visit this morning. She said my strong reaction is possibly because I had been exposed to Covid in advance of the shot.

Last night was horrible. I feel decent right now, but that has been the pattern- back and forth of fine and then near death. I also asked about the cough that I had last March and that cropped up against this Spring. She says that it is an allergic cough, and I need to take Zyrtec.

I thought (and I asked the Wifey this last night as she has had the shots), don't they do the anti-body test prior to administration of the vaccine? If so, they pick up the anti-body, they know you've had it/been exposed to it, right?

Did you take Pfizer or Moderna? Assuming it was one of those, I am surprised by that kind of reaction. The mRNA vaccines are supposed to supply your body with a message to keep an eye out for the Covid virus, but do not introduce the virus itself.

I guess there is also the possibility that you got Covid shortly before the shot, so your symptoms are actually from Covid itself. Maybe you should get tested...you would not be positive from the mRNA vaccine.

The facility in Elgin was amazing. They had national guard folks running it. I went in and had my shot within two minutes. Very efficient.

Jaw, Pfizer. The doctor recommended I get a Covid test. But even if I am positive, there is nothing I can do. I am supposed to quarantine and wait an additional 30 days for the second shot. But it is not like I get additional medicine.

I have talked to enough people now to know this reaction is common. What is a bit unusual is the length of my symptoms.

Currently the recommended interval is 21 days for Pfizer and 28 for Moderna (I got Moderna yesterday). Are they saying 30 additional days to the 21, or 30 days total?

It's not getting the virus. It's a reaction by your immune system because it already has fought it once. It's pretty common among people who tested positive. Often though the second shot is much better for them.

She said 30 beyond the 21. And yes, what Rick said above is right in that the second shot should be milder for me assuming I already had Covid exposure.
