Agreed. If that is the case, then flip Grandal and Moncada.

This is kind of a big game. Would be really nice to take 3 of 4 from Cleveland.

Sox could end today on top of both Cleveland and Minnesota. I don't really care about the 6-4 Royals because we know that team fades away in a few weeks.

I understand the need to baby Moncada. He got a big hit in the 1st.

He did play a good game last night and I hope he can build on it

He can build on it while hitting 6th or 7th. At least he's still playing a pretty good 3rd base.

Moncada hits better at 2.

I'd have him there.

Moncada had a good first AB so maybe this is where he turns it around

You guys are overreacting. Being .500 at this point in April is good for the Sox.

La Russa will be fine. Relax.

 Do they "round up" at the end of the season if the Sox were to miss the playoffs by a game?

That's not nitpicking. The White Sox are not .500 right now. You're a dumbfuck and you were wrong.

La Russa makes Biden seem lucid by comparison.

You're not entirely wrong.

There's the obvious stuff, old and and out of the game, won't be able to relate to his players. But there's the added technical factor that the guy he leaned on for 35 years isn't there anymore. Dave Duncan was HUGE. He was doing sabremetrics before it was in a computer. It was in a train trunk that he hauled around to every ballpark. It was he who invented the set up guy. Not Tony. Dave was the innovator. Tony was the implementer. He's not, nor ever was, the genius he's been cracked up to be. The argument will be, "well, he's got 12 Dave Duncans, spitting out all the info that he could possibly want." Yeah, but Dave Duncan ain't there to collate it for him in the manner that he's been used to for 35 years.

LaRussa is going to be a problem. He's already shown it. He's even admitted it.

Can Dave Duncan do anything about the shit defense? That’s what’s hurting them the most. That ain’t on LaRussa.

He probably would have a couple suggestions since he was the brains and Tony is administrative.

Isn't Duncan working for the Sox as a consultant?

After 35 years he's working without a partnership in the clubhouse and in the dugout. Working naked at age 76 figuratively. Might happen literally. RIP Casey Stengel.

I usually don't put too much stock into these reports good or bad, but for some reason I think there might be a little smoke here.

Quote:
The White Sox have dealt with injuries, to be sure, but a number of early-season losses are being chalked up to playing time, lineup, and pitching decisions that White Sox observers find to be reducing the total production of this talented group. That all is apparently already causing issues in the clubhouse. From Jeff Passan today (emphasis added):

One can forgive Tony La Russa for a difficult transition back into the dugout. He was away for 10 years. And yet at some point, that excuse gets tired, and with some of La Russa’s maneuvering, one can understand why the patience in some parts of the White Sox’s clubhouse is growing thin.

The latest came last week, when, trailing by three, with runners on first and second and one out in the eighth, La Russa allowed Billy Hamilton and Leury Garcia to hit, even though Robert was available on the bench. La Russa’s explanation after the game was that he was “looking for a single there.”

It wasn’t the only mistake he made that game. After an awful start in which La Russa let his best pitcher, Lucas Giolito, languish for seven runs in one-plus innings, Giolito had bounced back with a solid six innings. La Russa sent him back out for the seventh. Giolito wasn’t going to ask out of the game. That responsibility fell on La Russa, who after the game said he didn’t realize Giolito was gassed.

He’d made the same error three weeks earlier with reliever Matt Foster and admitted “that’s lousy managing.”

How does a guy that experienced not realize when his pitcher is gassed. That is one of the most important things to keep track of for a manager. That is inexcusable

Maybe because back in the 90s and early 00s, starting pitchers regularly threw into the 7th and 8th inning?

But yeah between Katz who has known Giolito for 10+ years and LaRussa who has managed like 20,000 big league games, that is a mistake that simply cannot happen. Especially to a last place team like the Tigers.

Thats bullshit though. You want to be a number 1 starter, get your ass out there and get some outs and then dont tell the media after the game you were " gassed" when you didnt. You think Wainwright, Dave Stewart, any of the horses LaRussa had previously wouldve ever done that ?

I've tried to give LaRussa some time to get reaclimated to the bench and could look beyond some of the lineups, but wearing out pitchers is inexcusable.

I agree overall, BR. But I do think in this age of shorter outing from SPs and specialized bullpens it in is incumbent upon the SP to let the manager/pitching coach know if he's running on fumes.

Completely different eras. Kids aren't developed the same ways over the last decade, especially pitchers.

My issue is, if you are going to take the ball and go out to the mound (i.e. not tell the manager you are gassed), then you cannot use that as an excuse after the game. Speak up....

Was LaRussa supposed to read Giolito's mind? And unless Robert hits a home run (he has 1 this year) someone else is going to have to get a hit. Passan hated the hire, and this just feels like piling on.

I hadn’t even considered that Giolito never said anything. Is that what happened?
