Rodeo, where are you on this one?

Mike North will be broadcasting on the web in a joint venture with
Lettuce Entertain You. He has a non compete for six months which may
account for his disappearance according to Crain's.

Look for him on the Wildfire website.

Quote:
Mr. North says his contract prohibits him from doing a show, online or over the airwaves, for a traditional radio or TV broadcaster until January. But he says nothing prevents him from doing a Webcast from a site owned by a non-broadcast business, such as Wildfire, owned by Richard Melman’s Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises Inc.

“It started out as, ‘What can I do for the next six months,’ because these radio station contracts hold you hostage,” Mr. North says. “It’s a four-month deal. It will bring thousands of people to his restaurants.”

1: That's funny that he thinks he can help bring people to Lettuce Entertain You locations, as they do pretty well without him.

2: What about honoring your contract, Mr. North? For a guy who always says guys who stick to what they agreed on, sounds like he couldn't wait to find away around that contract.

It's pretty pathetic, if you ask me. I for one would avoid going to a resturant broadcasting him for the two hours he's on the air!

The really sad thing is that it will probably be a better show than the meathead combo of Larry and Hamton

Every time I've been at Wildfire, the place was pretty packed requiring a 5-10 minute wait. The business proposition is a little bit puzzling behind the move, but what do I know, I'm just a chatboard moron.

I thought his contract ended. Didn't he go on other shows saying he was deciding among offers? Didn't he say he would be on the air in September? How much do you think he is paying Rich Melman?

Ugh! I just had dinner at Wildfire Saturday night. I feel so dirty. Had I known this, I certainly would've gone somewhere else.

That's the question that comes to my mind. Would anyone negotiate a non compete that extended beyond the end of a contract term? I'm sure you'd negotiate if the contract was terminated, but this one ran its natural course.

Hawk Harrelson just said Mike and Bebe North helped him make his "pick to click" tonight. You think Pappy called him just so his name can still get out there? Probably.

(Crain’s) — Mike North, who left WSCR-AM (670) in June, is trying a novel approach to get around his non-compete clause with the CBS-owned station: He’s planning to do a daily, two-hour show on the Web site of Wildfire restaurants.

What??? All of a sudden there is a 6 month non compete clause, he never mentioned that, for sure when he said he would be on the air somewhere else in a few weeks. The guy is confirming that he is a lying sack of crap every chance he gets.

How can they prevent you from working when they don't renew the deal?

Why didn't Gibsons want him? Wildfire is like the double A farm team of steaks.

It happens alot in broadcasting. In the contract, there usually is a "no compete clause" that keeps someone from ending their show on one station on Friday, then showing up across town on Monday.

The WWE does it all the time with their performers. I know news stations include it in wording for news anchors and whatnot.

Proves though that Mike is full of shit. Did he not say he would be "on the air" in September?

Being a glorified "Musak" host isn't "on the air" at least in my book.

Not uncommon in business to have a non compete past your last day of work. All sorts of sales people have them precluding them from working in the same market and industry for a competitor for up to a year.

Honestly, I was a Wildfire fan. Was. There are too many places out there competing for my dollars. With that tool as the new face of Wildfire I am not interested in returning. Its such a pandering effort and having a disningenuous and desperate schmuck as spokesperson is not good for business. Melman knows restaurants better than anyone but he's over his skis on this one. It probably won't matter in the long run as it will fizzle like several of the other mistakes Lettuce has made which are admittedly outnumbered by its successes. All I know is they've lost at least one fan by bringing this douchebag out of hiding.

Maybe Melman can have Larry and Hampton on a web show for his restaurant Big Bowl...as in toilet.

In the case of North, I can see that being a possibility. But from his original internet broadcast, it didn't really sound like he couldn't broadcast now; could it?

Is Mike a persona non grata in Gibson's now?
