Short of Kimbrel being traded to an AL team, I don't get this move to give him a second day off. And Justin Steele deserved the chance to pitch the 9th if Kimbrel is hurt.

If memory serves, he had pitched back to back. The rest of the guys have to be able to hold a 3-0 lead against the Pirates.

Weren't they off yesterday?

I agree that the rest of the bullpen should hold a 3 run lead for an inning, especially against the Pirates. I'd have preferred to see Justin Steele in there instead.

Yes, but he had pitched in the prior two games they played. With a 3-0 lead, I would have given him the day off too.

Fucking hell, Bote. You almost never see someone picked off second.

When you’re hitting in the fucking 100’s that can’t happen .

I like this Thompson kid. I'd much rather see him get a 2 inning stint every four days than watch Rex Brothers and Jason Adam. Give Justin Steele some 7th and 8th inning work as well.

Beth Mowins.

Props to the Pirates' manager Shelton for letting his rookie starter pitch the sixth. Win or lose, it's about development for the Pirates this year. Given how the Reds keep stepping on their own dicks, the Pirates are on pace to compete again in 2023, and maybe even in a lockout-shortened 2022.

Duffy!

Clutch! 2 out RBI hit again!

In the beginning of the year I said guys like Duffy, Sogard, Marisnick are the kind of guys you need on the team to manufature runs and change the hr or nothing culture. I was laughed at. Now these guys are proving me correct!

He and Sogard are the same guy, veterans who get a good at bat just about every time. They have been a nice addition to this team.

Sounds like something the Cubs desperately needed.

Absolutely. They remind me of guys that the Cardinals used to have on their team back a few years ago under Larussa when they were always good. They do nothing flashy, but always seem to be doing something positive.

Duffy came up in the Giants system when they were on their WS run. That Giants farm system taught all their guys fundamentals and how to manufacture runs and performing in the clutch. Cubs were smart signing a guy like that to change the hitting culture Theo left the cubs with.

You said Sogard was a better 2B than Bote and that still remains untrue. But feel free to go fuck yourself as always asshat.
