I like this Thompson kid. I'd much rather see him get a 2 inning stint every four days than watch Rex Brothers and Jason Adam. Give Justin Steele some 7th and 8th inning work as well.

Props to the Pirates' manager Shelton for letting his rookie starter pitch the sixth. Win or lose, it's about development for the Pirates this year. Given how the Reds keep stepping on their own dicks, the Pirates are on pace to compete again in 2023, and maybe even in a lockout-shortened 2022.

He and Sogard are the same guy, veterans who get a good at bat just about every time. They have been a nice addition to this team.

Absolutely. They remind me of guys that the Cardinals used to have on their team back a few years ago under Larussa when they were always good. They do nothing flashy, but always seem to be doing something positive.

Duffy came up in the Giants system when they were on their WS run. That Giants farm system taught all their guys fundamentals and how to manufacture runs and performing in the clutch. Cubs were smart signing a guy like that to change the hitting culture Theo left the cubs with.
