I assume this is Gowain from Arthurian legends and not a sequal to Batman

An Arthurian Legend movie that might not suck? Can certainly use a few more.

is there a story that seems so readily made for Hollywood that has resulted in such shitty interpretations?

King Arthur is the original multi chapter story with prequals, sequals and franchising

I suppose it’s difficult to compete with a Wagnerian opera. I will say because of the source material the bad Arthurian movies still entertain me at least. The recent King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Keira Knightly’s King Arthur, Helen Mirren’s Excalibur, and Connery and Gere’s First Knight are mostly trash, but I usually don’t turn them off if I see them.

I do wish the studio would have let Guy Ritchie make the 5 movie he wanted to make about the Arthurian stories.

Legend of the Sword wasn’t that bad.

it's nice to see a new flick that isn't marvel related in some way.

most of the problems with arthurian movies is that they get too caught up in costumes and special effects, and lose focus on the story and characters. the fact that "monty python and the holy grail" is the best of all king arthur movies is pretty telling.

Excalibur is pretty awesome.

saw this yesterday. i had high hopes, and maybe came in with higher expectations than i should have. it's somewhat passable as a symbolic atmospheric film. an allegory.

but there are some really slow, draggy moments that could've been cut and some over the top stuff that wasn't necessary. nearly all of the third act is like "last temptation of christ", delving into gawain's choice when he comes face to face with the green knight a second time.

it's a rather simple tale but it becomes a bit too heavy handed for its own good.

the look and feel of it, though, is pretty astonishing. great use of cinematography, the costumes and sets are all fantastic.

it's a near miss for me, overall.

:D :D out of :D :D :D :D
