It does not feel like the White Sox have reached their full stride, yet they are starting to climb to the top of quite a few rankings lists, both of the subjective and objective variety. And why not? The ChiSox lead the majors in runs per game and rank second in runs allowed per game. The lofty offensive ranking is eye-catching since a team we figured would hit lots of long balls thus far ranks just 25th in isolated power. Yes, Chicago still has to navigate the long-term absences of Luis Robert and Eloy Jimenez. Nevertheless, there is plenty of reason to believe it's only going to get better from here. -- Doolittle

If Tony LaRussa were a young minority manager he would be praised endlessly for managing to overcome injuries to guide the team to what's at this time is considered the best in baseball.

Ageism is arguably the worst form of discrimination.

No, it's quite understandable. I'm 61 and the processing speed in my brain is going down. That doesn't mean my decision making has been compromised. It's just a little slower and eventually it will be compromised. How can it not? I s'pose there are exceptions, but I'm 100% that LaRussa isn't one of them. Not at 76.

This is only necessary in your racially motivated mind.

Yeah that’s never a media driven angle at all.

I was hard on Tony 2 weeks ago so I have to be nice to him right now. He has done a good job managing the last week or so. I can't even pin the 2 KC losses on him as situational hitting is one thing he can't control. The line-ups were fine and the pitching/bullpen decisions made sense.

I see across Sox boards people wasting their time about Larussa. Reinsdorf didn't care when you complained about Ventura and he is equally or more invested in the Larussa choice. Move on to the next topic.

Agreed.
I'm in the camp that the manager has limited influence. Yes, Ricky was awful against Oakland in the playoff series, but I don't think that roster was strong enough to move advance past the next round even with the best manager of all time.

Tony is too old for this and it was a peculiar hire, but I don't think it's going to cost the team in terms of getting to the world series. That will live and die with the roster, which appears to be pretty damn good.

Complaints about Ventura were probably warranted. LaRussa is exactly what this team needs ( in so as much as any team needs a manager) and should be getting heaps of praise for his leadership in where they are now despite all the injuries theyve suffered instead of idiots like Bernstein wanting him gone cuz hes "racist"

I think he has zero connection with the players. Which is fine as long as they're winning. This looked uncomfortable

The main thing for the manager of a team like this or even the 2016 Cubs is don't fuck up. Hopefully getting these first games past him has put him back into the swing of things.

grandpa rossy's connection with the players has predictably resulted in underwhelming effort and performance

The owner has LaRussa's back. And Ross doesn't have Anderson and Abreu. He's got Bryant and Baez.

I have a sneaking suspicion I could find some cubbie fan posts about Bryant and/or Baez being FAR SUPERIOR

Tony can STFU.
Minnesota only used 4 pitchers outside of the clown that served up that soft toss over the middle of the plate. You don't want to burn your bullpen....fine....don't give up 14 runs.

I hope Yermin gets another one and Tony drops dead in the dugout.

On the bright side, Bernstein has some primo content to work with whenever he’s back.

Agreed. What does he want Mercedes to do? Ground out on purpose. Use your closer if you want to end it.

This moment here is why Tony was a bad hire. It's the reason it pains me to say Bernstein was right

I’m a bit rusty on my unwritten rules, but if the Twins hit the Sox best hitter, isn’t TLR obligated to have Crochet or Kopech earhole Cruz?

That was one of Ozzie' s selling points. That's a team continuity thing.

So now Tony's story via Scott Merkin is that Yermin was given the take sign on 3-0 and ignored it.

Tony is going to get roasted. As Casey Stern from XM89 said, he hopes Tim hits 3HR tonight and gets asked about it on the Zoom press conference.

The legend of Yermin continues. It may not last, but it's going to burn brightly for a while longer.

It's pretty damned dumb for him to throw his best young hitter (this season) under the bus. Tony may be too set in his ways to understand that.
