Dirk is the best, Giannis and Luka could change that though.

Melo was always going to be a 1st ballot even if college wasn't taken into account.

10x all star
6 all NBA teams
1 scoring title
top 10 in all time NBA points scored

Throw in an NCAA championship and Final Four MOP which is just icing on the cake.

Probably should have been RoY too, but LeBron was the preordained choice.

I know it's not the NBA HOF - it's the basketball HOF - but still the presence of guys like Kukoc and others degrade the distinction one receives when being admitted to the HOF. The best I could say about him was that he was a fringe all star when he played in the league.

you sure you know that? From the bolded it sounds like you don't realize it's not the NBA HOF.

Kukoc is one of the most decorated Euro's of all time. Below are his accomplishments. The bolded are all significant from a HOF perspective. Kukoc obviously belongs in the HOF, it's really not even debatable. Should've been picked already.

3× NBA champion (1996–1998)
NBA Sixth Man of the Year (1996)
NBA All-Rookie Second Team (1994)
FIBA World Championship MVP (1990)
FIBA EuroBasket MVP (1991)
FIBA's 50 Greatest Players (1991)
5× Euroscar Player of the Year (1990, 1991, 1994, 1996, 1998)
4× Mister Europa Player of the Year (1990–1992, 1996)
3× EuroLeague champion (1989–1991)
3× EuroLeague Final Four MVP (1990, 1991, 1993)
EuroLeague Finals Top Scorer (1990)
FIBA European Selection (1991)
50 Greatest EuroLeague Contributors (2008)

Italian League champion (1992)
Italian Cup winner (1993)
4× Yugoslav League champion (1988–1991)
2× Yugoslav Cup winner (1990, 1991)
3× Croatian Sportsman of the Year (1989–1991)
Franjo Bučar State Award for Sport (1992)
FIBA Under-19 World Cup MVP (1987)

Yep, I'm aware of his Euro accomplishments and that they are the key driver behind him breaking in. If I could rephrase, and if we can imagine entrants are assigned "hats" to wear as they enter, I wouldn't say Kukoc should wear a Bulls hat as he enters. His time in Chicago, while memorable, is not the reason why he's in the HOF. I still think more can be done within the HOF to disentangle NBA players from those who primarily played overseas. Just totally different competitive landscapes though perhaps the gap is closing nowadays.

Of course it's debatable. He wasn't as good as Kiki Vandeweghe.

Yao Ming had 7 years in the NBA. Petrovic 3. The Basketball HOF is just a different animal. Sabonis was the most talked about European player. Who was 2nd? And why? I guess Toni was a disappointment in the NBA. But they all were, up until Dirk.

Start allowing Japanese pro player stats and awards for the MLB hof. What a joke. TK had his clutch moments for sure. He was slightly better than a average player overall. Huge defensive deficiencies. He was carried on Jordan and Pippen's back. 11pts, 4a, 4rb career. Wow! Might not even be in the Bulls top 10 all time players. For the guy who hero worships him. Bad choice.

It's just not a surprise that he's in. Toni was a unicorn in Europe being a 6'10" ball handler. And he tore it up pretty good. He wasn't as successful as some would have liked for this honor, but the argument is he was one of those guys(Sabonis, Marciulionis, Petrovic) who paved the way for "the really good" European players. And this is how the Basketball HOF does things. It's nothing new.

Just like Nirvana paved the way for FooFighters.

EDIT: He is in. But he was a far greater player internationally than Kukoc.

It's not that funny. His NBA career wasn't great. He played hurt the whole time. I understand your point that it's not the NBA HOF. The NBA is the top league though. I give more credit to guy like Sabonis who couldn't come. It's not like Japanese baseball players.

I'm glad you claim to have gotten my point. Not really a point though, just stating the facts about what the HOF is to a bunch of clowns who are either too stupid or too stubborn to understand it.

As for your point, I can't claim to understand it at all. Are you saying that because Sabonis (who is in the HOF) was better than Kukoc that means Kukoc shouldn't be allowed in the HOF? Are we only allowed to have one Euro in the HOF?

Sabonis was awesome, his resume you listed speaks for itself. He is consistently ranked as high as #5 for the all time best Euro's ever. On those same lists we find Kuok who has a pretty amazing resume as well. On those lists he is sometimes higher and sometimes lower than Sabonis.

If you check out the top of most of those lists you'll find these players.

Dirk
Giannis
P. Gasol
Parker
Luka
Petrovic
Jokic
Stojakovic
M. Gasol
Kukoc
Divac
Sabonis

How many of those guys are not in the HOF or won't be first ballot guys when they become eligible?

This is as dumb as your Dominic Hasek argument years back

Melo was always going to be a 1st ballot even if college wasn't taken into account.

10x all star
6 all NBA teams
1 scoring title
top 10 in all time NBA points scored

Throw in an NCAA championship and Final Four MOP which is just icing on the cake.

Agreed. He barely makes it in.

Polio doesn't get in to the Pandemic HOF.

I'm not against Kukoc getting in, but if that's the case, when does Derrick Rose get in too. :D

Rose keeps playing like he's playing and who knows, maybe he'll get in as well. If he doesn't get in he'll be the only MVP winner not in the HOF. Fucking knees!

I'm a huge Toni guy and even I think this is crazy. I think he's getting in based on his cumulative achievements across the NBA and European leagues. Even so, there must be a special designation for people who aren't getting in just on the merits of their achievements in the NBA. Maybe there is.

By what measure is Kukoc better than Vandeweghe?

And then we can have discussions about OJ Mayo getting in.

Why would the international committee vote Rose or Mayo in?
