It's because you are a walking tampon purse, and I was the one who originally called that out. Frank I'm sure you are a nice guy, but you aren't very smart.

Is that like a wristlet?

They probably have their own reasons as to why a word that a 5th grader might snicker at becomes some sort of grand and glorious insult 30 years later. Clearly we're much too smart to understand.

interestingly enough, tampons are a tool professional bodyguards carry at all times when on the job as they can both fill a bullet wound and soak up blood

Ultimate spin zone there. If you think about it, tampons are actually the manliest personal hygiene product.

I made my peace with my own mediocrity years ago. The accomplishments of board members are not really what I was referencing. Instead, the sense of grievance is what I really thought he nailed. Those defending him the loudest are the same people who seem to be the most offended by the current state of society.

It's probably just a coincidence that MANY of our favorite board authoritarians are siding with management.

He spends a lot of time talking about managers for a guy who thinks managers don't matter.

And now he's gonna talk about Pythagorean record in a 32 game sample. This guy is the worst fake intellectual on earth.

Bernstein is a dope. He either doesn't fully understand Pythagorean record or he's using it dishonestly to rip TLR.

Managers matter to an extent. If you have a manager making mind-blowingly stupid decisions (TLR has made a couple so far), you can cost your team games. Hell, Ned Yost won a championship, and the guy is a complete dope. TLR isn't a good manager at this point, but I doubt he costs the Sox a title or playoff run.

Stone absolutely murdering people in this thread that are trying to tell a former player how much the current manager is hurting the team.

Of course a manager can matter. What I mean when I say "managers don't matter", it's shorthand for saying that it's impossible to judge how they mattered. And there are no "good" managers or "bad" managers. There's only a guy who fits the situation. Every Cub fan will tell you Joe Maddon was good then he was bad. What they don't tell you is how the front office who hired him could know when he would be which.

As far as LaRussa's- or any other manager's- "stupid" decisions, I put zero stock in any fan's or any writer's or any radio dope's judgment of that. First they don't know what's going on with each player on the club, who is gimpy, who is in a bad state of mind because his girlfriend broke up with him, whatever.

And I'm sure every fan thought it was "mind-blowingly stupid" to bat Jake Lamb at the top of the order, but they aren't giving LaRussa credit for turning a loss into a win when Lamb drove in all the runs that day in a close game.

Until someone can give me a concrete way to judge a manager, I'm going with "managers don't matter."

especially in a year they have zero access to the dugout

and no, I don't believe ANY players are blowing up Bernstein's text messages and neither is Rick Hahn. I can only guess how far down the hierarchy his sources must be because I think that Sox organization keeps it tightly buttoned up. They know if they stay loyal to JR they have a job for (his) life but even slight disloyalty is dealt with swiftly and severely.

I think the Lance Lynn intermezzo is a great example of the situation. He and Tony went at each other a little bit but that is a guy who has been with Larussa for a long time in the past and actively desired to get back with him this offseason. Yet the media would have you believe he is a leader in a REVOLT!

and no, I don't like Larussa. I didn't like the hire and I don't think he has done a particularly good job in handling the public. However, there is definitely assholery afoot in the media in regards to him. They had stories written about him from the time he was hired, just waiting to fill in the blanks with a couple of quotes before they were published. If you can't see that with Passan and Bernstein, you aren't paying attention.

TLR has apologized publically multiple times this year for stupid decisions he has made. Manager don't publically apologize unless they really botched something.

From my Commodorer 64. Is the ESPN link more acceptable? I will try to better control what stories and sources come up on my feed for you.

A friend of mine at the racetrack asked me this today, "If LaRussa is wrong and the unwritten rules no longer apply, then why did the Twins throw at Mercedes?"

I think most people who think LaRussa was wrong also think the twins shouldn’t have thrown at Yermin and vice versa. I don’t understand the point.

The point is the unwritten rule obviously exists. If it didn't, the Twins wouldn't have thrown at Mercedes. The Twins knew it existed. LaRussa knew it existed.

It doesn't really matter what "most people" think. The people that play the game think there's an unwritten rule.

Or the Twins didn’t care but after TLR loudly and publicly called Yermin out they figured they might as well throw at him.

Although I hate this guy for him sucking as a WhiteSox, Yonder Alonzo was on MLBN talking about how players get paid in arbitration. Doesn't matter who you hit the HR off of. This is an idiotic rule, if the other team just doesn't take the strike outs as well.

I missed the game. Was there anything redeeming about Australian Billy Koch’s game losing walk?
