If I’m in Westmont tonight, where should I go to get some dinner?

Seconded. But only get noodles or the pork and scallion pancake, and maybe the dumplings. The generic Americhinese stuff like orange chicken is pedestrian to account for clueless consumers.

Is Taco Grill still there or is that the building which got knocked down for more medical offices?

Still there. Need to get to it. Tried Del Carmen a few weeks ago it was okay. Service was great I didn't love the food...won't replace the others. Will try marmelly and taco grill soon.

The Beanie Baby graveyard is rather grim.

Has the salsa bar survived covid, or did it go to some request only bullshit? When I lived here, I liked killing an hour watching Sunday afternoon baseball there a couple of times a season.

I have only gone to Katy's once since Covid hit, mostly because I had been very careful not to sit inside places until my father had been vaccinated, and because what I like from Katy's doesn't transport well to a hotel room. But it is on my list to visit when I am back up in July.

Hopefully you tipped Lupe, (the energetic Latina that patrols the diner room) well. Take care of her and you will get all the free chips and salsa you want.

Free chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant, and all I have to do is pay money for them by tipping? Sign me up.

Spiral and Brick dont feel the need to tip their migrant food service workers. Keep them at slave wages. Sad!

It's the same owners. I've always thought their burgers were just okay.

Yeah, I never got the love for them either. Maybe back when anything more than a mile south of the BNSF tracks and west of 83 was farmland, but not in our lifetimes. Compared to peak early 70s original Hackney's, Country House is an Applebee's.

Original Hackneys with the onion ring loaf was the best!

Yeah, brings back memories of the business lunches at the Printer's Row location (now gone).

I actually haven’t had their burgers. I have had their fried chicken which was pretty good. And the patio in the Geneva location is nice on a sunny summer day. Beautiful view.

The Geneva location seems better maybe because it's newer. We stopped there a few times after hockey, it's a little odd that not much is around it.

I don't tip to get free stuff. I tip so I don't get my food spit in the next time I come in.

I always preferred the Hackney's on Waukegan and Lake. Went to a Bar Mitzvah there in 7th grade. Some kids from my school chugged cough syrup and threatened to beat up the 20-something DJ because they didn't like his music selection. He seemed frightened by them. I'm not sure why my classmates were so incensed. The DJ played plenty of slow dance music, and all the girls pressed up tight against the boys while the songs were on. I went to a bunch of Bar/Bat Mitzvahs in junior high school and loved them all!

The problem with the larger Hackneys was that the service was much iffier. The problem with the smaller Hackneys was that the wait could be horrible on a winter weekend.
