https://www.espn.com/espnw/voices/story ... harassment

Quote:
The details differ, but the story is the same.

For me, it was an attempt to kiss me during a job interview. Inappropriate questions about my personal grooming and spoken-aloud fantasies about how great the sex we'd have together would be. A comment to a colleague: "If you're not going to try to f*** her, I am." A comment to a prospective boss during a job interview: "I've got an idea for a show. It's a half-hour of Sarah sitting in a chair, me standing over her shoulder staring down at her tits."

A reporter at another outlet complained to a team's PR staff that I must be sleeping with players because they were "giving me better answers." A team PR staffer telling a room full of employees I was a problem because my "boobs are distracting."

I used to say that things seemed to be getting better, but now I know they're only getting better for me. The power and agency I've acquired in the industry over the last decade-plus have made me a pretty dangerous target. But the women just starting out, the ones without a voice, they know the truth. They're going through it, just like I went through it, and the women before me, and the women before them.

All of the things she has stated about inappropriate conduct from men, I'm not taking any issue with. She is 100% right, that is totally inappropriate for a professional setting.

https://laist.com/news/brentwood-woman- ... t-the-game

However, there's that. Do you not think that your actions there started getting you the "power and agency" that you have acquired? Why aren't you discussing that you were essentially enabling that existing structure to occur? Let me guess, at that time, you were too naive to recognize what was going on. While I agree with much of what Spain says, she just can't be the postergirl of this movement. She also hurts her argument by not being factual with some points (no idea if intentional or just a lack of research -- the author of Sterger's piece has reached out to her earlier in a fairly well publicised story) and not backing up other arguments with any facts (in her favor, probably because this is already a long article and not a scientific paper.)

It feels like a bit of a call out to other women in sports in order to find a story to break. Again, I get her idea and I don't want to say that sexism in sports isn't an important area to explore, but it feels like she was an accessory to the perpetuation of it, and she benefited from it, and now she doesn't like it. I guess that is still valid, and maybe I am picking out one regretful moment, but it is a weaker position than someone who was against it from the beginning.

All I know is something moved when I read the part about personal grooming. And those dairy bags are quite impressive.

I said I would jack off. I didn't say whether or not I would finish.

She’d have Julie DiCaro’s career if she didn’t have 38DD’s or were 100 lbs heavier .

I can't stand that hypocritical fraud, but she's holding it together well for a 40 year old trollop.

Not only will she not discuss that part of her past, she gets real indignant when it’s brought up.

This is what a petulant hypocrite looks like.

You are damned if you do and damned if you don't. Best you can do is set a boundary and stick to it. She'd be better off if she didn't get indignant about it and said I did what I had to at the time to get me where I am. I didn't like it but it helped in getting the results I wanted. I wish things weren't this way and I'd like to use my position to change things now and for the future. It's a really difficult thing to go thru. I made the best decisions I could at the time, there was no right or clear path to follow. It's very hard to navigate and right or wrong I stand behind my decisions.

It's a lot harder than you think making the decision to do things or not do things and then accepting the consequences of that decision. When you go the way of not doing things it's even harder to keep going while keeping things amicable or advancing.

Exactly. i'd have total respect for her if she did that. Admit that you whored yourself out, maybe regret it, but accept that you got here because of it.

Then youd think she'd be more forgiving of others old social media posts instead of jumping down their throats about them and demanding accountability.

Sarah is from Lake Forest and went to Cornell. She was always born and raised for the job. She's just pissed she had to use the side door early on. School never ends.

It very well may have been a situation where you are damned if you do and you're a never was if you don't. And the points she is trying to make are valid (at least the ones I have read seem to be.) She also seems to believe people possess only a monochromatic thought process that you either (A) work hard to get jobs or (B) use your female sex appeal to get jobs. Nobody is saying that Spain got to the top only because she pulled these stunts, and certainly she wouldn't still be around if she wasn't working hard and all of that. Seems like a situation where she may not have resolved it internally because as you say later, she may have been feeling awful doing it and understanding she was going against her beliefs in order to get her foot in the door, but now fifteen years later, it is painful for her to acknowledge that is the path she chose and she'd rather have people focusing on her last ten years of work... the other option may well have been she never gets a break and ends up working as an administrative assistant while keeping a sports blog on the side. If she would approach it from this vulnerable decision that was made years ago where neither side looked great, it would be more consistent with what she is currently trying to say rather than focusing on convincing us that sex appeal and hard work can both be done at the same time (most of us know this -- at least I hope we do!)

She's the poster child for the worst of the "social justice warriors" as a result.

If I remember correctly, Sarah Spain kind of failed up to national ESPN by wearing out a path to the HR office at AM1000 -- she made herself such a nuisance that local promoted her out of their hair.

From hnd's How is Sarah Spain on Nationally Syndicated Radio thread from 2016

Tad Queasy wrote:
Last Sunday morning I was hoping that Dari and Mel were going to be on again instead of Will & Kate, but neither show was on and The Trifecta was on instead. Have the ratings been so bad that it's already being shuffled around to different time slots?

Anyway, Sarah Spain seems to be the driver of the show and she was talking about one of her pet peeves, which is people lying. Then she tells a story about how she and a female friend of hers were at the beach and she told a guy they met that she and her female friend met while they were doing porn. The guy turned out to be a producer in porn...for real. Sarah thought this was so funny but her two co-hosts didn't say much of anything until one of them said "For someone who says she hates lying you sure seem to lie a lot yourself."

The co-host's tone sounded like she was kind of kidding but was mostly serious as if Sarah had been irritating her. Sarah laughed it off by saying that when she lies it's just for fun and not done maliciously, and those are the lies that bother her.

I'm guessing the "We're in porn, tee-hee!" bit was probably done around the time she thought it would be awesome to sell herself for Super Bowl tickets and before she became a "feminist"/SJW.

It seemed like her co-workers at the time, even the female ones, thought she was full of it.

I've never found it to be an either or situation but I had limits and wouldn't put myself in situations where I had to make a choice of overstepping. Once you start crossing those lines, it's harder to come back from and your success seems more empty in the eyes of everybody else. That's sort of her problem. I don't know anybody that seems to like her product. Anyway, it's hard to balance the 2 but can be done. The most difficult time is the handling of things if there is a rejection. Your best bet is from the outset to appear completely naive but be happy and enthusiastic.

To some guys busty girls in a bustier will always be important, intelligent television. I wouldn't say it's not.

espn national radio is a demotion from a big market local

I think she went to Cornell like Andy Bernard did, at the school of hotel management that seems to be the backdoor into the school for many

I'd do soo much motorboating there...

Image

Sorta reminds me of a story, back in the days, grinding it with some top heavy chick at Polyester's on the dance floor and she got tired of me staring at her tits which were pretty much falling out of her tiny top, and told me "I have eyes you know!''

My response was "Really!?"

Happened to me just before a hazy closing time at a bar. The woman was primarily wearing a bustier. Her line was "my eyes are up here". To which I replied "you didn't want anybody looking at your eyes".

She got pissed and I started laughing.
