Even with Doppler, when you zoom in as close as they were, its still pixels.

Despite having the B crew late on a Sunday evening, WGN did a great job explaining the radar images and what was going on.

Same with WGN. When I got to the other house, TV (which is on a timer), was on and WGN was giving live coverage. They were zooming in on the Woodbridge tornado and the pixels, you'd have thought this were 1980 and you were playing Pong.

The radars they are using were designed in the 80s At some point this decade, the NEXRADs are supposed to be replaced with Phased Array Radars, which is basically a civilian version of the SPY-1 that they use on Aegis ships.

Makes me wonder, what type of radar do devices like Trackman and Flight Scope use?

NWS Confirms EF3 damage in Naperville & Woodridge. That's 136mph- 165mph winds.

Yes sure after a bad storm. Looks like a typical Arkansas neighborhood every day sans the nice houses.

Have you visited NW Arkansas Denis?

Large homes, beautiful and scenic neighborhoods with no Pulte signs.

Seems unlikely. It hit in the middle of the afternoon. She lived in Rockford and had friends in Plainfield in high school.

Also, power and phone lines were knocked out. And, infamously, there were no alerts.

There are lots of problems in that thread unless people were using carphones.

Yeah the guy telling her the story is a fucking liar too .

Image

https://patch.com/illinois/plainfield/remembering-plainfield-tornado-its-30th-anniversary

"My daughter went to each of the surrounding houses to bring our neighbors back to our house for shelter and clothing. Our son gave away all of our clothing to everyone who needed it. Everyone stayed in our property until police and ambulance arrived. One neighbor needed 70 stitches on his back from the storm," Litwiller said.

Today, his children are adults, living in different states, but the terrors of the tornado is now an inherent part of their lives.

"Even 30 years, later whenever either one has a bad storm they call each other to make sure they are doing OK," he said.

The tornado had struck without warning — no sirens to announce its approach.

You should hop on the old Twitter machine and let her know there are some discrepancies in her story worth examining.

Yep. Lotta issues in Jon's story as well. By the time the sirens actually went off, the 1990 tornado had already dissipated.

Another confirmed tornado from last night

Jon is saying he was in Downers Grove and heard sirens going off the same night of the Plainfield tornado.

Tornado would have been 45 minutes past DG when the warnings came. Probably no sirens.

Reminds me of how Norm MacDonald post 9/11 was trucking through the blood and bones to try to find his brother after that horrible incident. Turns out his brother had been watching on the TV safe and sound in Canada.

Sirens went off in Sycamore. I remember bracing in the hallway at school....sky went green.

are tornado warnings and sirens linked? sunday night my siren went off 15-20 minutes before a tornado warning had been issued for my area.

We definitely needed some rain. Sucks that it's going to probably wash out the kids' baseball tourney this weekend.

Yep the rains are needed but its sucks that it has to happen on a Friday & Saturday. Hopefully we'll make up for it with great weather for the Holiday.

I realize the forecasts will change 50 times, but on my weather app, there is at least 30% of rain everyday through 7/6.

a week ago you couldn't have convinced me that we would have ponding going on in fields with how dry it was but the puddles are starting to show up. Bloomington area had over 8 inches in the last 24 hours as of 7am. Same as southwest Wisconsin.
