Agreed.
I think it says more about the Dodgers lack of showing up for a game than it does the dominance of Cub pitching...and I'd say the same thing if it was the White Sox or any other team boasting the "hey our pitching staff threw a combined No-Hitter".

It’s so odd how some people immediately feel compelled to diminish things or explain why it’s not real, as good as other things, or not entirely worth attention.

Can’t it just be a cool, fun moment and let it be the story for a day?

What’s the harm in that?

Not diminishing the accomplishment at all...and I don't hate the Cubs at all. The Cubs pitched a great game, but I think the term "No-Hitter" should be reserved for a single pitcher performance.

I just find it odd that the Dodgers couldn't scratch together 1 goddamn hit against 4 different pitchers.

As has been mentioned the fact that they had so many men on base gave it a disjointed feel . Anytime its not a starter going the whole way it loses some of its luster. That said, it is a cool anomaly and eenytime you can beat LA in LA is worth a golf clap.

I saw Rich Bordi work on a 1-hitter in person. Then Juan Samuel hit a 2-out 9th inning HR to send it to extras.

Papa Dr. Ken left to beat traffic and I listened to the rest on the radio going home.

That's memorable.

I don’t take “joy” in it. When I woke up this morning and read it was a collective no hitter I thought “wow…that’s cool. I’m glad they won and good for the bullpen. Those guys deserve the attention because they’ve been the collective MVP of the team. So, it’s a fitting accomplishment.”

That’s it. I agree there’s no need to prop it up as being on par with an individual no hitter, but the inverse is also true: there’s no need to actively diminish it and piss all over it.

Frank are you sure on this, I think combined no hitters count?

When journeyman bums starting throwing 50% of the no-no's they lost their shine.

Cubs are looking to return the favor. But if 8 guys walk, they better score a run.

Like to see Wisdom get more ABs but it's not happening with Ross having a friendship with a lot of the underachievers he'd have to sit.

Ross better not wait for Arrieta to implode. I'd have an early hook for him waiting always.

Fascinating 2 games for the J-Hey Kid. Must have broken 4 bats in these 2 games .4 hits. 2 weak grounders to the first baseman he beat out. A broken bat bloop over the shortstop position. And finally a seeing eye grounder between the infielders shift on the right side.

Baez didn't run out a groundout, the throw was up the line and he tried to speed up awkwardly and may have tweaked something. what a jackass.

In 40 years of watching baseball, I’ve never consciously seen a 3-pitch inning in MLB. It’s an unwritten rule that the third batter takes a pitch if the first two guys make an out on one pitch. Of course, the third batter was Baez, and he is in his own world. Smoltz even predicted it.

I guess the bright spot is they didn’t strike out. Through 7 they were on pace for 20 Ks.

I was not watching...but wtf, this was called a foul ball?!

That HR would have put Kimbrel in to close it out. Cubs should have won this game.

I saw the replay, the ball crossed in front of the foul pole from that vantage point. Too bad, so sad.

Regarding a 3-pitch inning, here is how rare they are: there have only been 184 in MLB history. In contrast, there have been over 300 no-hitters.

IMPORTANT NOTES: The list below is far from being comprehensive. As mentioned above, pitch counts are not officially recorded so each of these instances has been found by Baseball Almanac when it was mentioned in a newspaper story, or article (sources include Baseball Digest, the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune & The Sporting News) accompanying the box score.
