I really don't know anything about Nichols or Taylor but I was surprised at how innocuous what Nichols said actually was. She got replaced by a co-worker and she said what she felt about that. And I didn't read it as having anything to do with Taylor or her qualifications specifically, but what Nichols said about ESPN's decisions likely being informed by its previously terrible record re: "diversity" is obviously true.

Yeah, what she said was basically "sure, give her more work, just not at my expense," which is fair.

I've read people saying "well, ESPN's studio coverage is so bad that a demotion for her is Actually Good," which makes no sense to me. I know ESPN's NBA coverage sucks compared to TNT's, but no one sees going from hosting to sideline reporter as a step up. All these people are just looking out for themselves. Ask Maria Taylor, who turned down a contract extension because she wants as much money as Stephen A. Smith.

I've learned over the years that 90% of landlords out there are far better people than their tenants. One of the reasons I decided to sell my first house rather than rent it out when moving into the one I'm currently in was that most renters are awful.
