Contreras needs to go to an AL team though. Toronto is the best spot for getting something for him.

Ideally they would trade Contreras to Toronto, Bryant to Boston (to mostly play 1B) and Kimbrel to Tampa, all on the same day.

Sox don't need to hit it out of the park with a catcher acquisition. Grandal is back in 4-6 weeks and they are sitting there with a 6.5 game lead. He'll be back in plenty of time for the playoffs even with the most pessimistic outlook. They need a competent borderline starter who is good defensively. There are even a couple of guys sitting in recent retirement who could fit the bill.

Catcher is not this team's problem, however, I would defensively take Contreras over Grandal. I wouldn't give up the asking price, though....no thanks.
