Enough is enough. He's a lifelong baseball man. He knows.
I don't want to hear any more about "ooh! Poor Jake! We can't hurt his feelers! Oh! Sad! He meant so much to the world series."
Thanks Jake. There was a time you were a terrifying opponent. That time is the passed. (Thanks deitrich).
But now you look like a schlemiel.
Stop embarrassing yourself.
Go softly into that good night. Tonight.

Yeah if he has any self respect as an athlete and competitor, he should just call it a day himself .

This season is a good example of why you don't make a recent player (who played with half of your current roster) your manager. Might as well have named Clark the Cub the manager if they wanted a mascot in the bench.

You're playing for draft positioning.

Ok cool do it with a AA pitcher. This is a terrible way to end a career. Just awful embarrassing. You can't let this happen to a world series hero.

Would like to give him till the end of the month. That said if he continually can’t get through at least five innings he has to go, at least from the rotation.

Agreed. Enough's enough. Get Trevor Cahill or Lackey.

I completely understand, but his status as a Cub can never change. Let him go out on his own terms. He's a prideful dude and he's definitely earned it.

Ah stop. I dont really think Ross has much to do with this. This is the same team Maddon had that fell apart. This is way more on the front office and the players than on Ross.

Yeah but man, see, the day comes for everybody, everybody. And the truth is that most guys need to be told that day came. Being able to call it yourself is rare, and when it happens the vast majority go out on top. He's gonna go out looking awful.
Additionally he can't be taking a roster spot from a youngster just because for some stupid reason that makes no sense the cubs "owe it to jake". They don't.

Who cares about a roster spot for a guy that won't matter? Loyalty used to mean something.

Put him in the bullpen and bring up a young starter. I'm sure he can provide a little help in relief.

That seems like a reasonable compromise.

Remember reading how he attributed his earlier Cubs success to eating tremendous amounts of kale, may be time to get back to the "kale" diet. Been around several vegetarians that eat a ton of kale, but they are no where as ripped as the Jakester was back in the day, unless he had access to a different type of kale.

Loyalty went out when Jake rejected a cubs offer and signed with Philly.
They paid him for his time. He moved on. They owe him nothing.

Jake’s ERA in June/July (7 starts) is 10.41.

Jake can't relieve, he's getting blown up in his first two innings, not the second time through the order.

They need to put him on the IL tomorrow, because with Williams back (and fuck the Cubs defense for blowing his stat line up when he was probably just supposed to go 2), Jake's next start would land during the All Star Break.

By the time he does his 10 days, he will get one more start in Arizona. If he can't go 5 with 2 ER against the shitty DBacks, then it makes it even easier to release him into retirement.

give him some dignity and put him on the IL

then let him help the tank after they denude the organization

Jake Arietta is telling us not to believe our eyes... believe him. He'd make a perfect Score host.

The seasons over for the Cubs. Keep playing Jake & J-Hey to see how worse it can get.

You either have to DFA him or put him on the IL with a "strain" at this point, right? You can't keep trotting him out there every 5th game. I suppose you could move him to the bullpen, but that might be worse than what I suggested above.

Anyone want to bet your mascot manager is fighting to keep around some bum he caught 5 years ago and that's why he is still there?
