This is really a win. They weren't going to sell until the Baseball Gods forced their hand. They should trade everyone.

Not starting Jake again would be the biggest move they can make but yeah, back up the truck. Sell'em all.

if that's true then this organization is really run by Mickey Mouse. Why would you let one good burst change all your plans?

Because on paper to start the season, this team did not look that good.

Hoyer flat-out told us they were rebuilding when he dumped Darvish. There was no other way to interpret that.

then he's lying. I guess I'd rather the dude lie. We all knew this team was terrible, and the only way they stay afloat would be a bad division....

Kimbrel is the only guy who might get you a decent return. Other guys are below replacement level for most contenders

Bryant isn't below replacement level because along with his hitting he's not atrocious defensively at CF/RF/1B and is competent at 3B/LF, and he doesn't seem to mind moving around if it's going to increase his value. In a playoff game, that's kinda important.

Compare that to Nick Castellanos, who is a butcher in the field. But I think that with the DH likely arriving in the NL and Rizzo likely departing, he is the most likely Cubs DH in 2022.

If they deal Hendricks that tells you we are looking at least a 4 year rebuild. Will Ricketts go that route again with Marquee not being on the strongest ground?

I hear tell that the Cubbies utility guy should fetch a young middle of the rotation starter plus prospects plus a few streaming service subscriptions.

A rebuild not only of the team, but of the minor league talent, with pinching pennies, will be a monumental undertaking. Then, if the Cubs history of poor talent evaluation resurfaces as usual, this could get very ugly for a long time. Hoyer had a voice in poor drafts, J-Hey's signing, and horrendous trades. Now leading us to the promised land.

But but but Cubs fans were telling me before the 2017 season that the Cubs were here to stay. That they would be the Red Sox of the NL, snatching WS titles every 4-5 seasons. Hmmm.

This team needs a total reset in the way they evaluate/draft players and that is not going to happen unless they reset the entire organization from top to bottom and adopt a new philosophical approach to hitting.

The current roster full of launch angle low contact guys that routinely wave and miss pitches well out of the strike zone puts almost no pressure on opposing pitching staffs.

There's no guarantee rebuilds work. You've got to have solid moves clumped together and eventually have multiple all-star quality guys together on your roster. Theo did it. But, couldn't continue the future excellence of his shallow promises. Hahn and the Sox have had a masterful rebuild loading up on talent. So far not a lot of bad money, and pissing away young talent for rent-a -players like Theo. Hahn will eventually trade more extra young talent. Let's hope he learned from Theo's blunders and have a wiser master plan than the genius. Hopefully Sox fans never go thru a Jason Heyward like bad money signing the helps derail the process.

Speigal Sunday morning praised the Cubs organization for doing all they could organizationally to change the Cubs hitting approach. Then layed all the blame on the players for not adjusting, and doing a 180 on what they previously were taught.. That's like praising a carjacker for using a turn signal.

I wish I had a rundown of who he blamed when quality hitting coaches were fired after what seemed like every year for the past decade

Jesus Christ, it's 10am in Chicago, how the fuck haven't they traded somebody by now?? Even something dumbshit like Ian Happ to the Royals so he can play LF after they inevitably trade one of their better outfielders.
