It was an awful draft record for over a decade. Hahn changed the approach and drafted for skills after years of Kenny Williams drafting the best athlete he could find with little regard to the fact that baseball is more of a skill game than an athletic one.

Nah, people were appalled by the Rick Hahn drafts. It was a non-stop bone of contention for years, reaching its nadir after the Jake Burger achilles injury. As if the White Sox could've possibly known Jake Burger would miss three seasons to freak injuries. Even then, it was only a few months ago you could find MANY who would say the Sox draft history was a "fireable offense".

But now its all hunky dory because Carlos Rodon is light-favorite for the AL Cy Young and here's Jake Burger, Gavin Sheets and Zack Collins contributing to a first place team. It has gone from abysmal to outstanding in less than two-hundred days.

and that could easily do another 180 in another 200 days

Can we conclude that KW sucked at drafting players?

It seemed like just about all of his 1st round picks (except for Sale) missed.

Hahn’s record looks nuts relative to the Williams regime. Crochet, Vaughn, Madrigal, Anderson, Rodon…
To be fair, he was drafting a lot higher because they were so shitty.
There is no need to defend KW. It's not too much to expect for the GM to hit on 20% of his draft picks.

This pick seems like more of a tools pick than a skills pick. We'll see how it plays out.

It does. Couple more inches on him, he'd be playing basketball.

Worked spectacularly with Tim Anderson, but I'm a little wary of lightning striking twice.

Maybe Hahn can package Colson with Cease to get Joc in here.

I agree with Ogie's major premise that baseball is more of a "skills" game than an "athletic" game, but you can draft either type of guy and have it work. I think it would be a mistake to lock yourself into one type of player. I know it's trite, but you just need to find guys that can play.

It's an educated gamble. Zo Cain and Timmay are good examples. But neither got good until age 26.

Anderson is a natural who worked his ass off to maximize his athletic potential. Not strictly an "athlete" guy because he's always had an elite ability to square up baseballs. It was obvious that he was destined for the bigs pretty early on. His ascension to being an all star has been because of his work ethic, not his athleticism.

Tim Anderson is a much better ballplayer than Luis Robert, despite Luis Robert being a much better athlete.

It just takes A TON of experience to be at an all star level as a position player. Guys like Bryant and Harper were in travel ball at age 9.

Sox loading up on pitching. Last 7 picks have been pitchers

Cubs have only taken left handed pitchers, and they have taken way too many Arkansas players.
