Its been a while but they were hard to find. I got them from Grand Aquarium back in the day when they were still in business. I don't even know where you can find a good pet store anymore that would sell exotic fish. Scott's Pet Shop maybe.

There's a awesome shop in Crystal Lake. Birds and Beasts on Berkshire. The guy who runs it knows EVERYTHING.

I'll help.

Thanks brother, I'll let you know.

Two big tips...

Setting up a biological filter is hard or easy. Easy if someone gives you used filter media (seeded media). If you want to set up an aquarium and you give me a couple weeks notice I can put some media in my filter to get beneficial bacteria in it. In fact I have some filter floss I was looking to replace in the next 6 months. If you put that into a new filter you would have an instant "cycled" tank.

I've got so much Java moss that you can have 20 30 bucks worth for free each month.

I feel like a 55 gallon freshwater setup done "right" would be about...
$200 for the tank
$100 for the stand
$250 for the filter
$200 for the light
$40 for an air pump
$100 for a heater
$60 for sand or gravel.

I can get you started with plant cuttings if you want real plants which I'd recommend. I can get you started with water test kits too. Then it's about deciding on driftwood or rocks. Once you're all set there it's about what kind of fish you want to look at.

It dawned on me that even if I don't follow through with the topic at hand, there are people here I've never met but want to consider friends that I value.

Thanks.

We've been Facebook friends for years and, unlike Seacrest, you've never invited me for a beer. What kind of value is that?

Damn, I used to go to that place 30 years ago. That was (and sounds like still is) a great place to shop for fish and supplies. Every time this thread pops up I want to start a small tank. Way back then I used to have a fun little 10-gallon tank in my office at work, a sweet little setup with tiger barbs in a black-and white themed tank. I should clear a place in here and try that again. I always got compliments on that one. Tiger barbs are mean little fuckers though, they dont play well with others.

Not true. I just haven't been as quick on the draw except for two outings where I left early and left an oversized amount on the group bill. Once it shocked Biggie.

But I'm not Dr. Ken, Seacrest or JORR.
