He took the Bridgewater option. Be a backup for a year or two and get a big deal. (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky will be a starter again. Probably not this year.

Bridgewater option

Yeah, he took a 1 year deal like Teddy for one third of what Teddy took. I asked you mitch apologists this a few months back.. What team will want him? A new crop of QBs are about to come into the league and fill up roster spots.

Buffalo gave him a chance to be a backup and reform his career. I predict (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky starts at least 10 more NFL games. You think I'm wrong?

I don't think he will start 10 more NFL games.

Starting to see some mocks having Bears take Stanford QB Davis Mills as high as the second round. Looks to be a prototypical Pace guy, good athlete with limited success at the college level that he thinks Nagy can coach up.

It all comes down to this, do these two dipshits have a contract extension that extends beyond next year? Nobody really knows. Everybody at Halas hall has ducked that question.

I don't think that drafting a QB in the 2nd round buys either Pace or Nagy more time. I'm not sure that a 1st round QB (especially trading up and moving picks that could help this season) helps either if it makes the team worse for 1 season, but that is at least a reset button for Pace to buy him more time.

It seems realistic that they are looking into trading up (given Pace's history of aggressive moves and the need for a QB) though, but it's a poker game with Denver, NE and Washington all in the mix.

Im no insider, From the outside it does seem to be that Pace- Nagy signed secret extensions and wont be gone in 8 months. Even if they win 5 games this year.

I don't think they can dump Quinn until after next year. I think Goldman missing mini camp after sitting out last year was a bigger deal than Nagy made it.

I understood Goldman fearing that he could have the same fate as nearly every member of Karl Anthony Towns family last year. There is no reason why someone like that shouldn't have been first in line to get vaccinated. That better not be the reason he didn't show up.

One of the reasons he slipped in the draft was there was a knock against him that he didn't really love football. At least according the Adam Jahns on the Bears Athletic podcast.

He's been mostly injured. I doubt he makes the roster. A body for camp.

I am really unhappy they haven't been able to reach an agreement with Robinson. I just don't know where to focus my anger.

Why? He doesn't fit the profile of a wide receiver you want with Justin Fields and he's going to be on the wrong side of thirty for most of whatever contract you give him. We need speed guys who can get open, that's what goes well with Field's skillset. Not a big contested catch possession receiver, especially one who costs over twenty million a year.

They should've dealt him to Baltimore for Orlando Brown Jr. honestly.

I feel the opposite...it's one of the few decisions Pace has gotten right. I like Robinson but not for what he is asking. He's not a #1 WR on most teams.

Of course, the Bears will screw this up by not replacing him with someone as good or better who will allow Fields to thrive.

I'm not. I'm fine with allowing him to walk. I don't think he's an elite receiver. The Bears won't regret that deal more than the Mack trade.

He's most definitely an elite WR, he's top 12.

Borderline. If you want a player to make your mediocre quarterback look great then he's one of the best, but he's not as great a fit in the offenses helmed by good/great quarterbacks. Its why I'm shocked the Ravens were not blowing up the Bears phonelines all off-season to pry him away. Would be a perfect fit for Lamar Jackson.

Speed and ability to get open are the two big skillsets you want. Contested catch? Eh, not so much. Nice to have but not worth paying twenty million for. You can draft a guy who can go up and get it in the second round and pay him peanuts, its not that hard to find.

He doesn't have the speed or skill set to beat great corner backs. Even good corners take him out of games at times. Last year he lost a few 50/50 balls to bums and cost the Bears the Lions game with a brain fart at the end. He's overrated.

He's good at hauling in slants and converting first downs. Among the best in the NFL.

Still, if you have a really good offense you aren't looking for long drives anymore. All the defensive coordinators have adopted the Vic Fangio philosophy (which predates Fangio, its just Fangio who has popularized it in the modern NFL). The more plays an offense runs the higher the likelihood something goes wrong and results in a turnover, sack or penalty. Defenses aren't too bothered giving up too many first downs through the air as long as those first downs don't come in high leverage situations or are the result of big plays.

He's definitely good at the 6 yard slants and finding the soft spot in zone coverages. He's a really good player to have, but I don't want to pay Bobby Engram like he's Devante Adams.

Exactly. Draft a possession receiver in the second round and take that twenty million dollars a year to pay/buy yourself an offensive line. If the Bears really think they need a Tyreek Hill, AJ Brown or DeAndre Hopkins to really bring out the best in Justin Fields then by all means make an aggressive trade-up in the draft or stomach that financial commitment. Players like that are really worth it. But Allen Robinson isn't that guy, never has been nor ever will be.

JORR vibe.

WR's were the ones left out in free agency this year. The Bears can franchise him again next year too.

Robinson needs to play exceedingly well in order to get the payday he is looking for. Better then he did last year. And he will still be looking for more then he is worth.

Anthony Miller didn’t make it to the 2021 season as a Bear after all.

The Bears are shipping the enigmatic wide receiver to the Texans, the NFL Network reported Saturday night, just three days before the team’s veterans were set to report to training camp. It’s unclear what the Bears are getting in return for Miller, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Miller’s last game was a telling one: he was ejected for fighting in the wild-card playoff game against Saints cornerback C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who had forced Javon Wims’ ejection using similar tactics earlier in the year. Because of Wims’ experience, the Bears held a 15-minute meeting the week of the playoff game to wide receivers not to get suckered into fighting Gardner-Johnson. Miller did anyway — and despite knowing he was needed with fellow receiver Darnell Mooney injured.

Chairman George McCaskey told WMVP-AM later that week that “I have a bigger problem with Anthony’s ejection [than Wims’] because they sat him down and they told him, ‘Listen, watch out for this player. He’s a punk. He’s going to try to get under your skin.’”

Asked whether Miller would return for 2021, McCaskey said, “that’s not up to me.”

The Bears have been frustrated with Miller’s inconsistency since they traded up to draft him in the second round of the 2018 draft. A talented slot receiver who can beat man coverage, Miller posted his best season in 2019, catching 52 passes for 656 yards and two touchdowns. The year before, as a rookie, he caught seven scores.

Miller caught 49 passes for 485 yards last season. The Bears tried to push Miller to improve. In May, receivers coach Mike Furrey said that the team had enough depth to not have to rely on him.

“It’s not going to be a need-base, you know — we don’t need you,” Furrey said. “We’ve got guys that are going to be able to produce. You better be a pro, you better be on your details, you better do what we’re asking you to do.”

Coach Matt Nagy later felt compelled to say the Bears still needed Miller, and that the coach was just trying to explain that the team added options over the offseason. The Bears drafted North Carolina slot Dazz Newsome to compete with Miller; he broke his left collarbone in early June but was expected to be ready around the start of camp.

“[Furrey’s] message was about the depth that we have at that position,” Nagy said in May. “And that you know all of those guys, including Anthony Miller, that this is the most competition that we’ve had. ... He’s super motivated to have a great offseason and training camp and control what he can control.”

I doubt we got something commensurate with what he could have produced if he had come in ready to take the next step in a contract year...but this is anthony miller so I doubt he came prepared
