Coming along to save the White Sox season are a bunch of highly drafted guys who everyone wrote off as busts because they failed to be phenoms or rank highly on some top one hundred prospect list. Carlos Rodon, Gavin Sheets, Zack Collins, Jake Burger, Adam Engel...even Tim Anderson fell into this category once upon a time. Whatever they can squeeze out of these guys plus how far their pitching staff can take them is as far as this team is going to go.

I also think that's an enduring dynamic for next season and subsequent years. The durability problems with Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert aren't going away.

Nobody doubted Rodon
, he just couldn't stay healthy. Sheets is hitting .267 with 8 career hits. Collins is hitting .236 this year...204 for his career.. Burger has 6 career hits, hitting .363 so far.

Just the rest of MLB.

In spite of that end-of-season flash of peak form, Chicago non-tendered Rodón rather than bring him back for a projected arbitration salary in the $4-5MM range. After a few months in free agency, he’ll return to the organization at a slightly cheaper price.

Remarkable. It's almost like this guy was a high draft pick or something. Bring back Carson Fulmer for a second go around since all high draft picks eventually figure it out

He was so bad he wasn't wanted back even at a discount. Ethan Katz couldn't even save him.

I thought he had this in him but I never thought we would see it for any extended period of time. He's had stretches of dominance for five or so games.

Is there anyone who is really confident that he won't break down, even this year?

Every start I'm hoping this isn't the one where he gets injured.

I'm not confident that any pitcher won't break down.

He's always needed the mental aspect of his game to get stronger.

It was physical as well. He was a big guy but carried far too much weight and looked like a long inning taxed him.

I, too, keep waiting for this wave to break, but let's just ride it as long as we can.

I dont think Lance Lynn is someone worth worrying about.

Would you take him over Palka? :D

So far he has been great, he has proven a lot of people wrong. Still not sold on him in the big picture.

I was too, but maybe working out in the offseason, changing your throwing motion, and having reality set in that you need to do more than rely on your natural ability changed things.

Using your lower body more to throw probably saves the elbow/shoulder which was where his injuries were.

I was at that game. Something I'll never forget. He threw the pitch and walked right to the dugout. Didn't even wait for the trainer. Not knowing it was his back/shoulder I said "pop goes the elbow" figuring it was a UCL watching it live.

10 day IL for shoulder fatigue. Sounds more like just keeping stress off of him to make sure he can go deep into October

Seems an odd time to rest him with him scheduled to go tomorrow.

Hopefully it is just precaution.

Give Lynn an extra day to pitch in Iowa. Lopez goes today.

It is starting to concern me, that they will not stretch Kopech out at all to accumulate more IP.

Fatigue? He's barely throwing since Jul 6. He's had extra time every start including 11 days off at the break.

Must have been the side session that became worrisome.

Shutting him down until the 3rd week of September is fine by me. Give that shoulder rot some downtime.

According to Bruce Levine, LaRussa says that a ten day return is optimistic. It seems like it's something more than a precaution.

I'm surprised that Kopech only has 45 innings so far. I thought it would be reasonable to stretch him out to 85 for the regular season and then 15 over a maximum 19 playoff games. That would get him to 100 for the year, and set him up for 25 5-inning starts in 2022.

From what I heard on XM today, it sounds like they just decided after the side session that they had the schedule to let him skip a start and so they utilized the IL to get an extra reliever up.

I don't hate the idea of giving him even more rest at this point if we're being honest. It's all about October now

Throw him once a week to keep him sharp. Have him be the game one starter in every playoff series.

To be clear. Rodon has had MRIs before on his shoulder that showed no damage. They had to do exploratory surgery. They found rot.

Sit him until September 20th. Get him 2 starts before the playoffs and then after the WS let him get more decaying tissue removed.
