Don't you guys feel weird not carrying some cash around?

I only carry cash if I am going somewhere I know will not take my card. It has even gotten to the point at work when we order out we all just quick pay or venmo the person who places the order. Other than that, I never have more than 20 in my wallet and most of the time nothing at all.

A few years back my cousins ac wasn't working. I replaced the blower motor to get it rolling again. She's like oh great can I Venmo you the money? I said what the hell is a venmo. She says it's cash. I said it doesn't sound like cash. She's she said it was. Well I don't have a venmo. She said "you're an old ass man". I'm like fuck you pay me. She did to her credit pay up in crispy hundreds a few days later so that was just fine as paint for me.

If I think I may need some, then I carry it.

Like when I meet a friend at Tufano’s for lunch.

2021 was the first year that PayPal/Venmo payments accounted for about half of the money I collected for beef sales. Part of it was because we were forced to switch to a different butcher, and they offered a much wider variety of electronic access/communication/payment, at least I think it was. 2022 we'll be back to the guy we've used for decades- he does accept cards now, and his daughter will email.

Darko- I'd think the Venmo/PP would be great for your business, especially the side hustle. Most folks are not flush with the cash to cover an expensive appliance replacement and many won't want to leave while waiting for you to arrive to go get cash. You get paid without the extra step of going to a bank or ATM with a check or wad of cash.

I usually have a benjamin and a couple of $50s tucked into my wallet, along with about $200 I grab every two weeks or so for expenses. Two debit cards and my vaccination voucher, of course!

I hear you. But...
I really don't do side work anymore. It was ok when I was younger and making less. But now I don't need the hassle. I don't need to do a repair and be on call one day and someone calls me because something fucked up again or whatever and I'm warranting some work I did at little profit months prior. I'll help out my family and close friends and maybe a one neighbor but that's it.
I do, however, answer many questions here from folks for free.

I tend to have cash but it tends to disappear between the kids, the wife and the miscellaneous small item runs. I’m not ready to give up on cash and venmo/pp hasn’t cost me any business yet. Brother paid me with Apple pat the other day when I have him a 20 to take his kid to the pool. Wasn’t expecting it back, not because he is cheap but because it’s 20 bucks. Now I have 20 on Apple Pay and have to figure that out. I’m too old for that.

DS, I don't have any of that either. If I have to venmo something, Piglet doesn't it for me. I always have some cash in my pocket, can't stand it if I don't.

We have used Venmo once or twice at work for food orders, as well. Often, a supervisor hears about the order and picks up the whole tab, but when that doesn't happen, it's easier to get close to the bill+tip without tossing in a $20. Far easier than the person going to get the food to get change for 12 people!

It's not rocket surgery Hog, you can figure it out. we're not talking about fixing the Search function! (I think the Wisconsin-only version of these cash transfer programs is called Cheddar!)

Darko- your story of collecting from your cousin made me think you were doing more side stuff- you are correct, for once or twice a year deals it might not be worth it to keep up on an account. So far, there have been no costs to me for either program.

wallet and phone

keys only if I'm driving

i'd love to also not be bound to a phone but that seems hopeless

i haven't worn a wedding ring since about the first month of my marriage. my wife lost it and i told her it was her job to get a new one. i never wanted it anyway and she didn't put forth the effort. I hate jewelry. I never even liked wearing watches

Damn. Full size steel frame carry, you shoulder holstering that sumbitch lol?

Anyway.. nothing exciting on my end -wallet, keys, phone. I’ve been meaning to add a nice blade to the mix but I dig fixed blades with full tangs and that gets dicey legally.

If you're a rookie with weapons I'd imagine you should have a weapon with a traditional lever safety. I'm not an instructor or anything but I think I'd recommend a single action for a newbie. Of course, I'm partial to single action guns myself so perhaps I'm biased but that's my experience.

The wife got a Glock. I got pissed when it was clear that she had no idea how much she didn't know about the gun. And how overmatched she is by it. Fortunately she's turned away from the notion of cc with it.

And me? Since I stopped carrying a pistol , keys, phone and wallet. But when the weather breaks I'm probably start carrying a 38 again.

I’m starting to feel more weird that I’m not walking around in Kevlar.

I honestly thought your “spare magazine” in the OP was extra reading material.

My wife started with a P320 9mm. Now she uses a full sized government model sig Sauer scorpion 1911. Gun weighs more than she does. But she's good with it. Neither of us could shoot that 320. Dude I'm drilling holes in holes at decent distances but I'd be lucky to hit a silhouette at 21 feet with that striker 9mm piece of shit. I hated that gun. I was really happy to get it out of my house. Sold it for what I paid for it but I tossed in 120 rounds of 9mm.

I usually only carry cash for valets for when we go out for dinner. Doesn't feel weird at all. Every place takes plastic.

To be clear.. I don't carry except one field we have on farm so when I show up to with the Rip's unannounced you don't have to worry about kevlar.
