The Yankees are trading Alcantara and Vizcaino for Rizzo. The Cubs are picking up all of Rizzo’s remaining salary.

Haven’t we had enough Alcantaras?

I've had enough Jose Vizcaino's too.. (Although I don't know if this Vizcaino is a Jose or not).. Wan't there a failed pitching prospect too by that name. I'm okay with the trade. His back has concerned me for a while now with how much torque he puts on it when he swings. I actually did like the two strike approach vs the swing out of your shoes when you were down 0-2 that seems to be modern baseball.

The Cubs "rich" history of Vizcaino & Alcantara is now getting too much. Why not just call everybody Bruce?

Yeah, the overreaction is ridiculous. He's not going to get better.

I want them all gone. Team is going nowhere until that Heyward contract is off the books.

I wish they'd just wash their hands of him. I mean, we joke about the mythical replacement level player but really.. any old warm body can do what he is doing for the team. two more years of the abomination of a contract (I'm ignoring the deferred signing bonus).

Perfectly happy with the trade and return. The pitcher can ride the Iowa shuttle for the next two years, and the OF is a high ceiling low floor lottery ticket who will fight for playing time with the guys from the Darvish deal.

Hopefully this opens a path to bring back Castellanos this off season, plant him at DH, and let him rake.

I don't want to see Hosmer's sorry ass in Wrigley, nor Will Myers. Let Wisdom play 1B the rest of the year and see if he can cut his strikeouts below Mark Reynolds level.

Out of the core-4, Rizzo is the one I'd prefer to see go.

Hits into the shift almost every at-bat. Cant hit the ball the other way. And he is the oldest of them , in his 30s.

But, he's a great defender.

He said he wanted to stay a Cub.

I'm not sure about who we got back. I dont think it's top talent.

Hopefully Wisdom plays first and KB gets his position back.

They got back a young 6'6" CF playing in the same level as the better guys that they got back for Darvish, and an iffy lefty pitcher with a great changeup but not great control.

It’s baseball these days. You got what you could out of him. He helped win a championship and was fun to watch while he was here but you have to move on. Cubs are getting ready for some lean years here. I don’t see the reload so much as the rebuild. I suspect another big name will go if there is time. I don’t agree that Baez is who you want to hang your hat on but they sure seem to lean that way.

Picking up prospects is a gamble even with a shrewd talent evaluating team. The Cubs have a horrendous history of evaluation of young talent. The Cubs swing and miss 99% of the time. Tbe idea is to have layers of talent pushing throughout the organization. Then if you make a bad trade or signing the organization won't be crippled by it for years. If they end up with 2 Sandbergs and 2 Hendricks after the dust settles from the wheeling and dealing it'll be a miracle. Could be bunch of Botes and Adzoleys if the past is any indication. The one hope is McCloud is moved over and there's a new guy to replace him.

Has there ever been a guy whose "greatness" was fueled more by hanging over the plate and getting hit by pitches?

The slugging first baseman hasn't hit 30 HR since 2017, even though he is still a pretty young player.

also, Abreu is the reigning MVP and still playing for the Sox, IMU

Far superior, except in the clouded eyes of Cub fans.

The one thing Hahn has been great at from the beginning of his being/not being the GM is locking up talent to long term deals and then maximizing the value created by those deals. He's never gotten to the point of an ugly separation because he moved the stars early for returns that no one could question

Rizzo will not find the media in NY to be anywhere near as fawning as they are here.

Lots of venom spewed at Rizzo, Baez, and Bryant. They didn't sign Heyward, make bonehead trades, draft poorly, and cripple the future.

I don’t get the need to bury guys who helped win a WS on their way out the door.

Some of them....mainly Rizzo....are getting buried because their complacent, entitled, half ass approach since the World Series. Rizzo was an atrocious leader in that clubhouse. Ross, Zobrist and Lester led the team that won the WS win while he had a panic attack in the dugout in game 7. Theo even told the media to back up the truck when talking about him as the leader of the team AFTER the WS. I am not the biggest Contreras fan but he was right in calling out Rizzo for his bullshit leadership. They guy absolutely crumbles under pressure would rather play grab ass at 1B than dig down deep and lead his team to victory.

That trade yesterday put everyone on notice. They did not have to do it. They could have easily let him play the next 2 months and let him leave but instead they told him to GTFO.

Sentimental hogwash, but IMO he deserved an ovation yesterday. Shame on Ross for not getting Bryant and Rizzo into the game somehow. You were down by 4 to the Reds in the 8th and 9th inning. You mean to tell me he couldn't have found a way to get each of them in there as a pinch hitter, pinch runner, or to play defense late in the game? Terrible. Both guys deserved to say goodbye properly.

Otherwise, yeah thats a pretty good return for an aging 1B with an iffy back.

The important question is are the Cubs now over the 85% vaccination threshold?

If they aren’t you certainly won’t see the media go after Heyward about it.
