It's pretty ridiculous that the Cubs and their fans now turn their noses up at a core that won them a world series, openly expresses love for the organization and are good enough to continue to get them to the playoffs for the next few years.

bares repeating

You (actually all of us) should have pitchforks out for these motherfucking Ricketsses. They destroyed a great neighborhood and were dicks the entire way. They banked money and asked fans to be understanding, expressly stating that the money would be used to keep these guys around. They are still in their prime, perfectly capable of winning divisions and these owner now can't find the money. We think they are good people because they are dim witted, intersectional nebraskans. The reality is that they learned everything from their palpatine father and he hides in the shadows of all the big decisions for this team.

Many focus on Heyward's disastrous contract (which Ricketts has been too cheap to eat), but I've been thinking of one that no one talks about: signing Jon Lester instead of Max Scherzer. Lester was above average, but did not earn his $25m per year. He finished in the top 5 in Cy Young voting just once. On the other hand, Max has been a stud every year -- winning 2 Cy Youngs, finishing in the top 5 in 6 out of 7 years (assuming he will do so again this year, with last year's covid year the only time he did not). He has really been remarkable. It's hard to say the Cubs were cheap in signing Lester, but imagine how these last several years would have been with Scherzer instead.

Yeah.. I said it at the time, Max was the guy to get, probably difference between two rings instead of one..Cubs went cheap and saved 30 million.

that's just not true.

And who wants to sign any of these guys to a long term deal? Even Bryant could go right back to being injured.

A long time ago, one Dan Bernstein said "all of these guys will revert back to the numbers on the back of their cards." The only problem with that thinking was each of these guys was only a couple years into the league...they had no numbers on the back of their cards.

There was talent in the core. But they bet on bats and not on arms. In the end, that's what did them in. Fell in love with the core, every bit of it, and never drafted or later developed pitching.

The Twins just traded Berrios for two of the Jays top three prospects. No San Diego, no Seattle, no Tampa, no Boston. They all need pieces still.

Kimbrel and Bryant need to go to Tampa for some of their depth at AAA and AA. Josh Lowe and a 2B to pair with Ed Howard would be a start, especially if they take a contract off of Tampa's hands.

sounds like Bryant is going down to the wire. Good job by Hoyer playing one team off another.

If they don't trade Bryant, then that's going to be a huge miss.

Haugh is a moron. Any common sense Cubs fan knew that these guys would be traded.

What was traumatic for this Cub fan was this core getting swept at home by a mediocre Miami team in last years playoffs. It's time to move on and if you are going to trade one or two players and not win this year might as well trade as many as you can

Sign Bryant long-term and build around him.

This is the correct take . You can’t have your GM saying that the office is busted and continue to run the same people out there year after year in hopes that it will change. If they hit the fucking ball and played to their potential they wouldn’t be traded.

yes this was the right move. I think if it was still Theo - this would not have happened. Jed doesn't give a shit about falling in love with anyone on the roster. Good shit today by him.

Glad you only have a few opinions. Horrible strategy to sign a struggling player to a long term Borus deal and make him the cornerstone of your rebuild.

Only thing somewhat similar I could think of is when Charlie O Finley dismantled the Reggie Jackson A's. Or at least attempted to.

Media is treating this like the Bulls dynasty breakup. Not even close to the same thing. It was a failure after 2016 PERIOD.

The media loves the Cubs and their players. Always have.

2017 wasn't a complete failure. Getting back to October and winning a series is pretty good. After that, yeah its been bad.

I'm not bitter. 2016 was worth it. Was time to move from this group. Rickett's got all they could financially out of these guys and probably should have done this last year.

they weren't going to beat the dodgers in 2017. the 2017 dodgers were the 2016 cubs.

but in 2018 they fucked up. NL was theirs for the taking. Dodgers weren't that good. But they struggled to score a fucking run for a month down the stretch in Sept , blew the division, and couldn't score in like 14 innings vs the a rockies team.

2018 is the year they fucking blew it. that was their year to at least get back to the WS. They don't beat the Red Sox but at least they get back and things may have changed.

Seriously.

I know they won't get much for the guys that are up next year. Still, trade them and get what you can get. Some of those kids will hit.

Trade Hendricks and Contras too. Those guys have more then a half season left.

It would be baseball smart. This team sucks as is. Not gonna be better when these guys hit their 30s and you're locked into them when they hit their mid 30s. Why not do the rebuild thing again. Worked for them once. Working for the White Sox now.

And it doesn't mean you can't sign guys other then these guys. Just put money into the younger free agents. Christ, you pissed away money on Heyward.

Just saying, moving on from all these fuckers is the right baseball move.

Yeah, real dramatic bitch, I'm ecstatic..very happy day, keep going..move Hendricks too. Keep Contreras and run these MFers out of here.

312- great poster. 100 percent correct on everything baseball. Told us to go get Verlander in 2017, we laughed....he was right. Good stuff 312. Have a great life bro!

If the Cubs even had a semblance of a backup catcher, I think Contreras would be gone too. Seems like Ross is not a fan.
