Guys like Petersen and Marisnick signed with the Cubs because they'd get half a season to prove what they can do when other teams saw them as platoon bench players.
Neither performed enough, they just reinforced what the league thought of them. So Jed dealt them to teams who could use bench players for a playoff run.
Player and his agent likes the Cubs for the opportunity. Cubs get a couple of cheap lottery tickets and save some salary for the last third of the season.
Marisnick should have been able to beat out career journeyman minor leaguer Ortega for the CF job. He couldn't. So he's going to go to San Diego and be a defensive caddy again.
how is being a middle man for other teams good business? It's just a waste of time and resources bringing in dummies and then peddling them back out.
As far as Pederson, he to me was an everyday player, and pretty good fit. If he stayed, we would be better off.
