The Bears chose Desai over Rodgers. It will be interesting to see how their defenses compare next season and beyond, assuming the Nagy regime remains in place for longer than a year.

I'm surprised you're not breathing a Desai of relief over this hire. Then again, Nagy didn't seem to proceed very desaisively in replacing Pagano, so I understand your perspective.

I was about to make a joke about puns, but I'm not quite sure "Desai of relief" or "desaisively" are puns. Don't you have to use real words to make a pun?

I’m not expecting much from the hire.. but I did want Betcher here because at least all his odd looks and ideas on how to run a defense could have been fun.

I get it tho, they were always going to hire from within here. Who knows, maybe he’ll turn out to be a genius.. and just in time to be one and done with the Bears if he’s wildly successful and we get stuck with Nagy and Pace yet another year because they got propped up again lol

Could argue that Fangio's success with the D was what made Nagy look good early, Nagy's win loss record would likely have been much different without all of the defensive TD's Vic's D produced.

The D is still top third of the league, it's the consistently bottom 25 O that prevents the team from winning, seems everyone else but George sees that the teams weakness is Nagy's inept offensive coaching ability.

Apparently the Bears want to hire a "veteran defensive mind"--disgraced former Packer Mike Pettine or former Falcon nonentity Bob Sutton--to work with their new coordinator as a kind of consultant. I guess they're not so haigh on Desai after all.

Nobody else would take the job with a potential lame duck coach and a GM on thin ice.

Only if the Bears are making a run for the Smackdown title over in WWE.

Regarding Eddie Jackson, yesterday Grote said, "Here's a good thing that Bears fans should know...Sean Desai coached safeties. It's good that that connection is made. If anybody can get Eddie Jackson back to where he once was, it's Sean Desai."

Huh? :drunken: Wasn't Desai coaching him last year?

I think Grote's point was that Pagano wasn't using Jackson properly and Desai can use him more like Fangio did.

Defensive players have been talking about how Pagano didn't disguise coverages like Fagano. However, not sure how much disguising coverages will help if they do not find a way to generate more of a pass rush.

Seems like the mouthpiece media is trying hard to pump up Desai, which makes me a little concerned because they did the same thing with Nagy for several years before it became apparent he had a lot to learn about being an NFL head coach.

Hoping that at least at the start of the year they will be able to put different coverage looks out there and confuse a few QB's until teams start to adjust.

That said, the D is not the problem, it should be at least top 1/2 to 1/3 of the league, the bottom 5 offense is what has held this team back for the past several years.
