Mike Tirico going through cycling and water polo highlights on NBC. Over on NBCSN, they're showing women's soccer. The Olympic channel I didn't know I had until tonight has some quarterfinals tennis match on. And CNBC is rowing and canoeing.

I can't find the men's basketball game anywhere. What a fucking country.

If they saw the "women" wrestling, the answer is yes.

There are at least a dozen somethings being presented as sports, what a joke.

As an aside I always thought that handball was played off of a wall like in NYC and not a perversion of soccer.

The only bit of Olympics I’ve viewed was the women’s volleyball team getting spanked by the Russians. My God they looked clueless. Not even the great coaching of Karch Kiraly could stop them from hitting every smash directly into the outstretched arms of very tall and very scary looking women.

Didnt notice CNBC showin' shit.

Everytime I turn on the Olympics, it's women's sports. Fuck that.

Finally I am catching men's water polo on USA network.

This is a GREAT reason to have cable TV. You get all the channels showing Olympic shit.

I remember being on vacation in 1980, we boycotted...there was a lot of coverage of this handball game. We thought it was incredible.

would have thought this had been a bigger story, this stuff is just trickling out like its NBD trans athletes are competing in the games.

Wikipedia:

Born in Toronto to a sporting family, Quinn's father was a rugby player and their mother played basketball.

Quinn attended Duke University, where they played collegiate soccer for the Duke Blue Devils.[3]

In 2020, Quinn came out as transgender, and said that they use they/them pronouns, with Quinn as their full name.[9] They were permitted to continue playing professional women's football on the basis of their sex (rather than gender identity).[10] They have expressed disappointment with media using their three-word birth name when they came out, stating "it's crucial to write about trans people using their name & pronouns."[11] In July 2021, Quinn became the first out non-binary transgender athlete to compete at the Olympic Games.[12][13]

--Reading this makes me think someone is forcing a weird religion on us and that next they'll tell us to jump off a cliff at age 72. This sounds like an excellent satire. I'm glad Quinn feels supported, but the world is just freaking off.

Most of the Olympics kinda blow until track starts and I'm charged up right up until I watched the American world champion in the 200 do one of the dumbest things you can do on a track. Pulling up early thinking he could coast only to nervously make the final. I probably will watch a quarter of what I'd planned now.

I find the 100 electric, not unlike a heavyweight championship fight.

I find all other track & field events as easily avoidable & uninteresting as the undercard matches for those fights.

How can you not love the distance events, seeing the Kenyans and Ethiopians slowly make their way to the front?

Or the steeplechase? Running and jumping into a pool of water is magnificent.

That Scandinavian crushing the 400 hurdles made me feel seen for the first time.

Maybe someday my kids can be world class at running slightly faster than people.
