I like fresh air

So I don’t want to do it unless necessary

Over 80 or high humidity. Keep the house between 74 and 76. Nothing I hate more then being outside on a hot day and coming home to a warm house.

Turned it on today about 10:30. It's all about the dew point and until this morning it was fine.

I grew up with 1 window unit in a two-story house.

When it gets over 65 outside that thing is on and set at 68 unless it gets in the low 50s outside.

My monthly bill never exceeds $140.

My house is in direct sunlight and when it is above 85, the AC will literally run from around 10 AM to 8 PM all day. I have suspected that the insulation is lacking in our house since it seems that it is always hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Our upstairs never gets cool in the summer. I have spoken to my AC guy and the size of our unit is adequate for our home and the temp is coming out of the vents is 20-24 degrees cooler than the outside temp which is considered standard. I keep the thermostat at 78 which keeps our lower floor comfortable. The basement, where I sleep, is always cold. My electric bills during hot months are around $150 to $200.

Recent Comed bills:

July 2021: 77.70
June 2021 73.48
May 2021 68.49

Nest thermostat helps.

There's a better way you could suggest this without being an asshole.

It seems ours has been running since April.

Our settings are 73F when home, 78F when away, and 71 for sleep temp. My wife constantly fucks with the setting, choosing to lower the temp at night, usually to 68F. I finally figured out to set the duration of the alteration to only two hours, otherwise she leaves it there all night. Then goes to bed on a heated water bed under full quilt covers and with the door closed and the window open for fresh air. Meanwhile, the rest of the house has frost forming on the walls.

I want to suggest that ecobee thermostat develop a placebo setting, where the person without the pass code can set the temp differently, but the system won't actually respond.

I am seriously considering a window unit or mini split for the master bedroom only. Let her run it down to 48F.

How does a grown adult with advanced degrees act so childish about this?

My monthly bill does. Don't care. Grew up in a two story with no AC and had to goto sleep at 1 am in the living room because it was too damn hot in my bedroom. No more. I can afford it, its on. This challenge of being the last to turn on the A/C or heat.. Fuck that. I work outside, when I'm inside I want to be comfortable. I'd cool this fucker to 63 at night if my wife wouldn't freeze to death.

True.. The upstairs runs cold at night and not so much during the day, downstairs is pretty consistent but barely runs at night. Two different systems.

I didn’t have cable either.

We weren’t allowed to run the ac at night. So we opened the windows and woke up to the brisk breeze of the pig farm next door.

Your turn.

Old wood windows, swelled shut about mid June hence sleeping in the living room as the windows opened there. Pig shit is no way to wake up though. Good lord.

Agree. Set house to 76. 76 is fine since there isn't any humidity
