I spent the majority of my youth in a brick ranch in the subdivision that Mom/Dad built new in 1968. They could barely afford the house, so no A/C. Dad installed an old furnace fan to draw from the garage and exhaust into the attic space- if you opened the bedroom windows and the door from the house to the garage, it would draft air from outside through the windows and made for a cool breeze once the night cooled off. Except when it didn't. Then it just stayed warm and muggy.

I moved into the basement to sleep somewhere round high school age, cooler and dehumidified, IF you remembered to dump the bucket.

My Grandparents were still living on the farm, the house is brick and shaded, and stays cool if you leave the windows closed during the day. My bedroom here was next to theirs, facing east with no breeze from the window. When my Dad was a kid, he slept in the then-unfinished attic, as Great Grandparents lived with my Grandparents and occupied the extra bedrooms on the main level. Extra warm in the summer and unheated in the winter.

The cow barn, hog barn and chicken koop were north and east of the main house, so down wind most days. As was the outhouse.

Don't know about yours but running ours for any length of time was counterproductive. It ran so hot it would heat up the basement.

When it gets over 65 outside that thing is on and set at 68 unless it gets in the low 50s outside.

My monthly bill never exceeds $140.

I had no ac or cable.

THIS, and we rarely had a TV.

Real hawgs don't sweat, they wallow in the mud.
