I don't see how Monta's deal helps Deng. It could help define the market for Gordon though. I would anticipate that Ellis's number is the absolute ceiling for Gordon. 10M a year. I would think in this market now, he's a 7-8M a year player.

Sorry but to me Ellis is WAY better than Gordon. Gordon doesn't have nearly the explosiveness and can't finish around the basket like Ellis can. Certainly Gordon is a better outside shooter but that's about it.

I think the signing can only help. He was a restricted free agent as well and GS got something done. I can't believe this will continue to drag on and on the way it's been so far.

Agreed - Ellis is a better player than Gordon, and he should be paid more money. I think Gordon should have accepted the $10 million a season the Bulls offered last year.

It would be interesting to see what other top 6th men are paid around the league.

I agree 100% - my comment was that Ellis's deal is the absolute ceiling for Gordon's deal - there is no way he's going to get more than that and if you look back, I commented that since Ellis got 10, Gordon is probably in the 7-8 range.

Rumor has it that Josh Smith wants out of Atlanta and Detroit is one of the possible destinations should they sign and trade him. Since Josh would have a Base Year Compensation clause, a third team with cap room would be needed in the deal. Taysahun Prince and Amir Johnson are rumored to go from DET to ATL.

The Bobcats are offering Okafor a long term deal in the range of 10M/year since they dont want to lose him for no compensation after next season.

The Bulls and Luol Deng are making progress towards a long term deal.

The Lakers resigned Sasha Vujacic to a 3 year/15M deal

The Bulls and Ben Gordon are far apart from the deal.

CJ Miles' 4 year/15M offer sheet was matched by the Jazz

The Cavs are offering Delonte West the MLE to resign. Since the market is low on him, there is little chance he gets more and leaves.

That might actually be a good deal for Atlanta, although I hate to say it....I like Smith and I like the team they put together (minus Childress now of course). Imo, you're getting a more controlled albeit slightly less athletic version of Smith with Prince. Prince is going to be far more consistent and would provide a strong veteran presence. He also has a better offensive game than Smith who is pretty much limited to dunks. Anytime he jacked up a 3, especially in the playoffs, it was time to take cover. It's risky- that's for sure. He could develop into a bonafide superstar or could turn into Stromile Swift. Smith clearly has more potential but having someone like Prince could help stabilize things

The challenge comes into play is what is the timeframe for the Hawks to move into the elite of the East. Bibby has one to two more good years left and your heir apparent hasn't really developed (Law). Horford is a good complimentary player but will never be a go to guy. JJ is a very good player, but you have him until 2010 so you'll have to reup him soon. Marvin Williams will be an FA after next season so you have a decision to make. Johnson could be Smith in terms of athleticism. I don't know if this deal would move them closer to the elite in the east. Prince will turn 29 this season so he's hitting his peak soon. A lineup of Bibby - Johnson - Prince - Williams - Horford would be good, but I just don't see it being a super move for the Hawks.

Here we go....Josh Smith signed an offer sheet 5/58 with the Grizzlies

A) If Atlanta doesn't match that, I give up.
B) If he lands in Memphis, that's going to be a hell of an athletic team with some serious potential- Gay, Mayo, Smith & Conley?

Memphis athletic? Yes. Good: No, unless they switch conferences...

If I can ask a dumb question, why are the Memphis Grizzlies & New Orleans Hornets in the Western Conference? If I'm not mistaken, Memphis is on Eastern time, and New Orleans on Central...Shouldn't one of these two teams be shifted to the Eastern Conference, not that it really makes a difference? :? I think the NBA should shift one of these two, for geographic purposes to the East where they should be...

Because geographically speaking, there are more Eastern teams in the NBA than the West. The league needed to balance out the conferences with an equal number of teams.

Atlanta already matched, and I think they got this guy at a very reasonable (for the NBA anyway) deal. I just can't believe this one took so long to work out.

does it really make Atlanta anything other than a 4-6 seed in the east?

Maybe not, but without him I think they wouldn't even be sniffing the playoffs.

true...they're stuck with Bibby as well, none of their backups including their draft pick appear ready. Bibby used to be so good...if for some weird reason he gets back some of his game, they could do better, I guess...

I think they have reasonable expectations that Smith will continue to improve as well as Horford. You've also got to get something more out of Marvin Williams. He had a good first half last year but struggled in the 2nd half and in the playoffs

Bibby is not going to improve, if anything he's going to decline even further. I'm not terribly concerned, I like Law and think he'll be ready sooner rather than later

AC Law will be good...but he may be injury prone. Maybe he'll pack on a little muscle. As far as Marvin...yes, he's good and his ceiling should be higher...

Can't believe the Lakers are possibly going to give Bynum a 5/80 extension

Sounds a bit premature if you ask me...Biedrins got something in the neighborhood of 5/58, that seems a bit more reasonable

If you think he's the next Dwight Howard, the deal makes sense to do it now, before he can even sniff free agency.

Does his injury from last year concern you at all? Initially we was supposed to be out something like 4-6 weeks, then as the playoffs approached we heard no updates then finally we heard out for the entire playoffs as well. I'm not necessarily saying that means he's going to be injury prone but a knee injury is always risky and to offer someone that kind of dough for a long period of time you better be pretty confident.

I don't think the lakers would be offering up the contract if they had major concerns about the knee. I haven't heard any reports from his offseason workouts.

Does it concern me? Sure. Does it concern the lakers? It doesn't sound like it.

Yeah, because NBA teams would never sign a bad contract

No, I mean it more that they could wait until the start of the year and then sign him if he looks alright. They have until 10/31 to do any type of extension.

For about an 8 year period, Shareef Abdur Rahim was the best player no one heard of. Yesterday he retired at the age of 31 and got a small mention on page 2.
