They won't get a bond. They'll definitely get some blind spots justice for the rest of their lives.

Serious question...how are cop killers treated in prison?

Guards tend to hold a grudge

Sad for the officers and their families and friends, but the asswipes in the media are pissing me the hell off. Any nitwit can look at a map and stop calling the crime scene in West Englewood. Completely agree, especially about the media. In this case whether or not the correct neighborhood name matters can of course be debated. But facts are facts and media must be held accountable to getting the facts correct. Which all too often does not happen.

Yep.

Media sucks.

Very strong words by the superintendent.

There were 3 cops there? Did I hear that right?

Likely celebrated by a lot the inmates and given blind spot ass whoopings by the guards.

Straw purchases should be punished with the full extent of the crime the real people committed.

I really wish that could be the case. Like with felony murder.

Think about this... if I build a pipe bomb and give it to the little satanboy across the street and he kills someone with it even on accident I'm getting a murder rap as well right? Should it be that way with straw... sellers? How does that terminology work exactly?

It's a slap on the wrist. In most cases they won't be prosecuted at all. They report the guns stolen.

I'm not sure how they would do it. I know its often reported as stolen or something like that when it is done small scale but larger scale guys.. I mean, how many guns can you have stolen. I remember being at a store and being told about a guy who came in weekly and bought several guns for a an extended period of time. I mean, it could of been a guy who would collect and then trade at shows for other things I suppose but I found it odd. Salesman didn't find it odd, said it wasn't that unusual.... Still...

Holding people accountable for being straw buyers and major crimes would actually go a long way.

Any one of us could have a gun stolen and chances a stolen gun gets used in a crime is pretty high. I'd hate to be accused of something because some mchenry meth maniac stole a piece from my house and shot someone. But then I don't buy guns often.

Those guys were on parole, which talking about was also media sensationalism.

This shithead was on probation for robbery. He stole a phone from some guy off Craigslist, but then got the shit beat out of him when the guy caught up with him. It wasn't even his car, so not sure why the fuck you'd shoot two cops when you can just take the risk that the cop isn't going to search the car. The car had expired plates, they could have just got the ticket and moved on.

Right. I think one of the pieces of gun control legislation that died had something about after reporting your second one stolen their would be some action taken. Even that seems arbitrary to be honest. Obviously there is a difference in you buying a gun every 3 years and having one stolen and a guy who buys 300 a month. But straw buyers are a huge problem and solving that problem will have a bigger benefit than most any of the other gun control proposals I've seen.

Do you really think this was the first time these guys shot someone? Most murders aren't solved in the city. Just like most assaults aren't reported.

You're going to have a hard time solving this problem without some CTR like reporting for gun purchases. That would require a government database or gun store owners assistance. I doubt either of those things will happen. Maybe upping the time to 20 years in prison would make straw buyers think twice.

Not sure how many of you have cops in your family. I think I've told this story before, but my grandfather was a sergeant and lieutenant for the Chicago police. My lasting memory of my grandmother is her sitting at the kitchen table an hour before his shift ended, chain smoking and making sure the garage door opened and he arrived.

When I was about 5, he was involved in a shooting on Grand Avenue. He just happened to be in the area of a bank robbery in progress and showed up just as they were getting in the car. Despite being about 200 feet from the robbers, every bullet missed him. He eventually killed one guy and injured another. He was a hero, but never talked much about it. One of things people don't talk about is that the guy eventually found my grandparents home number. Occasionally I would answer their phone and get a collect call from cook county prison.

I know a lot of people are hating on cops these days, and I know not every one of them is perfect, but without a cop in your family you have no idea the stress and pain that comes with it. I can't imagine what this poor woman and guy's family will have to endure for many years to come. I can only hope these criminals are never released into public again and rot in hell.

Do you really think this was the first time these guys shot someone? Most murders aren't solved in the city. Just like most assaults aren't reported.

No idea, but if he didn't shoot the guy over the phone before its kind of a surprise he'd shoot and kill two cops. His life is fucked.

Well their bond hearing is tomorrow. Kim Foxx will probably recommend a 1000 bond.

Many that is true, but an incomplete statement.
