Dead at 78 from pancreatic cancer.

A Blackhawk legend and someone who forever changed goaltending in the league.

Wasn't his wife in a long-term coma when he played?

Sucks big time.

However, he did inspire one of the best posts here:

sad to hear.

tony gave me a signed framed photo - prob around 1972 or 1973. he used to come into my family's diner - solely due to his eye doctor being 2 doors to the east. tony wore contacts and he frequented our little diner. i was told he was a very nice guy, a quiet type who usually sat in a booth by himself and loved pecan pie with a few scoops of vanilla ice cream on it. i guess he was told i was too shy or too young to ask for an autograph and tony came through.

rip.

The Tony O/ Bobby Hull/ Mikita era was an amazing period in Chicago sports history. My dad would wheel & deal to get good regular season tickets. But it was strictly standing room only the best we could get in the finals vs the Canadiens. The only time I've had sro tickets. The Hawks were loaded. But the Canadiens always had their number.

A caller brought this fight up with Les tonight vs the Bruins.
